If Location is the key then Dimora dei Guelfi is a winner - right in the biz of Lucca and easy to get between the centre touristy part of the amphitheatre and the less touristy but really more for the locals at San Francesco. . . . I would love to give this place a 5* rating but as there was not a fridge nor a safety deposit box I can only give it 4.5*. Loved the flexibility and freedom of the card and key entry and as a wee added bonus our room had a small garden area/terrace - No breakfast was not a problem as there are many lovely café/bars really close by !
Will I go back = Yes !
Will I be recommending to family and Friends = Yes !
See you soon Dimora dei Guelfi
· As I said a safety deposit box and a fridge and it would have to get 5*
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay of 3 days in this establishment - the owners Simone and Claudia went out of our way to help us - even parking our car at the garage which was a bit of a walk away.
The room was spacious and clean with tea/coffee making facilities and a bar fridge, tv and our room faced the street and was light and airy. The shower is huge and the bathroom had all toiletries provided.
Our only complaint was that the air conditioner was ineffective- we had to open the window at night to escape the heat and this made for early morning noise as people moved around the street.
I spent two nights at this location, and I am very puzzled about the experience. it is called "luxury" bed and breakfast, but I wonder where the luxury is. Anyhow, in order to make this review useful for readers I will list the good and the bad things. Starting with the goods: location is fine, it is in the centre so you can reach all the attractions in Lucca just walking. It is clean and rooms are quite big, so there is space for the luggage and you have also a quite big bathroom. Our room was not facing the street so there was no noise coming from the street. Hotel staff is kind and they try to help you whatever question you night have.
Coming to the bad part: there is no isolation from noise from the inside of the building, so if a telephone rings or someone coughs you will hear it for sure.
Breakfast is served in the hall of the hotel, from 6:30 to 10:00, and since it is very close to rooms you wake up as soon as the staff starts preparing the tables. We have been waken up by the noise of dishes and voices both days, before 8 o'clock in the morning, and this is not my idea of holyday. For sure we have also been annoying the other customers of the hotel just by speaking inside our room.
We booked a last minute and paid 105 Euros per night, which was too much seen the noise and the poor choice at breakfast, but I read that room rate can arrive up to 400 Euro per night. I would be curious to see the face of someone spending that money and having breakfast in the hall after having been waken up at 7 a.m...
This find was very good value, central to Lucca within the walls and within easy reach of restaurants and shops as well as all the beautiful historic buildings. Comfortable, clean and with very helpful staff. The room was light and airy and beautifully decorated with hand painted trompe l'oeil on the walls. The shower room was well appointed with a large walk in shower. We had an excellent 2 night stay and I would highly recommend this B&B.
This is a very small "luxury bed and breakfast" with just 4 rooms. It is very attractive, part of an historic building with lovely, beautifully furnished and decorated rooms with excellent bathrooms (we had two rooms). Wonderful air conditioning and very quiet overnight. The room was provided with a fridge, a coffeemaker and a microwave.
Lucca is a delightful old city and this B&B is in the historic part, oozing with charm and character. The staff on the reception desk could not have been nicer and more helpful. For an establishment with only 4 rooms it is surprising that it is staffed until 10:00 p.m. though closed from 12:00 to 3:00.
There is no kitchen so the breakfast was served from behind the reception desk using prepacked food. It is served in the lobby area at the four small tables corresponding to their four rooms. Pictures on this website show how quaint this area is. It sounds churlish to criticize such lovely accommodation but the breakfast was not up to the standard of everything else - without preparation facilities it is not easy to see how this could be changed. Please do not be put off by this criticism just enjoy staying but be prepared for the breakfast. A great place.
