Our first impression of the Bnb was that of a poorly kept, old building, as upon entering the building we noticed the hallway to be in need of repairs, paint and some tlc, there was an elevator but it would not work.
I walked up the 52 steps, leaving my sister downstairs with our large and heavy pieces of luggage.
I encountered a very pleasant, professional, english speaking, willing to assisst lady at the BnB who walked down the stairs with me thinking she could assisst bringing the luggage up, to no avail . She found a small room near the elevator where we left our suitcases till she could get someone from the outside to come to bring them up for us.
I again climbed the 52 steps back to the BnB where the lady made a couple of phone calls to find assistance in getting our suitcases upstairs.
She never apologized or gave any explanation about a non functioning elevator when I told her the website stated there was an elevator.
We received a map and detailed information and orientation to Florence and it's sights, this was very helpful. Our luggage was brought up soon after check in.
The room and bathroom were very clean and spacious, but when we opened the windows because it was a warm afternoon and there was no air conditioning functioning, the noise coming from a very busy main street below our room was very loud. This noise level with open windows went on from very early morning till late at night.
Breakfast was served in the room for an extra 6 euros, coffee, yogurt and sweet rolls.
We requested no housekeeping but clean towels were provided.
Andrea, the owner or manager, was very helpful in booking tours and giving dining suggestions and directions.
The location is excellent to tour on foot, no need to take a bus, close to the train station and just 2 blocks from the Doumo. A taxi did charge over 11 euros each way to and from the train station, I think there's an extra charge for luggage.
Our real encountered problem at this location, besides having to go up and down the 52 steps each time we left our room, we stayed 3 nights, was at checkout.
We vacated the room by 10am and spoke with the lovely girl in charge of housekeeping, who kept our luggage since our train was not departing till later that afternoon, we emphasized the need for assistance in bringing our luggage down, when we came back later to pick it up and gave her the time we planned to return.
We were reassured Andrea would be there.
When we returned at the agreed time there was no one there, we waited a bit, attempted to get in touch with Andrea via phone call, message and email, no response.
There was no one to assisst us, it was very stressful because we already had purchased our train tickets for the next leg of our trip and it was very close to departure time, our Ubber app that had worked so well in Rome did not work when we needed it, my sister walked out to the busy street and intersections trying to hail a taxi but none would stop, I was still upstairs trying to use the BnBs land line phone to call a taxi and help with bags, I did not know the codes to use to make the call, it was a extremely stressful situation.
The amount of stress that was caused mainly by the fact of misleading information regarding an elevator was uncalled for. We are two middle aged women with back and knee issues, we would have never stayed there knowing we would have had to go up and down 52 steps every time we needed to leave the premises.
When I returned home I emailed Andrea, there was no response almost a week later.
