This hotel stands alone and is somewhat isolated in a desolate area of Valencia known locally as Beniferri.
Beniferri, on first glance, seems to be a very bland area that seems to be route whereby motorists and road users use to pass through to other areas.
There is nothing here.
When I say there is nothing here, I mean there is nothing here for tourists. Indeed, there is a supermarket where we can get all our food; there are local restaurants which are typically around €25 for two including drinks; there is a Burger King which do typical prices similar to those found in the UK.
However, there are no cheap bars or small tourist shops, and there is also absolutely nothing for children if you have children. There also appears to be a lack of amusements, and I would highly recommended one avoids this area if they are seeking a holiday involving having ones day/night fulfilled.
There is NO nightlife.
If you do happen to land here and have accommodation here, one can take the local underground at Beniferri Metro into Valencia Coty Centre to be greeted by people trying to steal your money who claim to be deaf and dumb. When you sign the page they thrust into your face, they will attempt to pick-pocket you.
Avoid these people.
Valencia City Centre is no different to other city centres (Glasgow, London, Birmingham, Madrid). It is a city. Beggars, rude people, nice people, shops, more shops, food places, bars, overpriced bars, and more food places.
Arrive with caution and use your map.
Valencia is easy to navigate using the metro system. We mastered it within one week. However, it is an overcrowded system where one feels out of place. Typical Spanish older men sitting on seats clad in shirts open at chest height with hard worn sandles look at you like you’re from another planet. This is all the while people push past you to get on and off at each stop.
If you mastered this metro and did manage to enjoy a day in town, then surely returning home to a quiet swimming pool is all one needs, right?
The swimming pool is around the size of four snooker tables lined up parallel together, where children as young as five and as old as 16 will jump in from the side with no regard to how much water you swallowed. While you are drowning this is when you realise that the swimming pool is in fact shared between two hotels - Illunion 4 and Illunion 3
Yes. There is a 4 star hotel and a 3 star hotel. Sadly, we booked the 3 star, but it would have made no difference anyway as alcohol is grossly overpriced within both hotels, starting at around €8 per whiskey with a standard measure of Cola.
I’m terms of ‘to-dos’, this hotel has nothing. There are no games area, there are no pool tables, there is no tennis court, there are no amusements, there are no games machines, and the swimming pool is about the size of a bathtub. This effect is also enhanced considering that an average day spent at the swimming pool consists of trying to fight over sun-loungers and also having your lounger stolen while you are at the shop for lunch.
The place feels very aggressive and people tend to look at you as though you are from another planet. That is not to mention the incompetence of the male cleaners.
The male cleaners are atrocious.
They did not hoover (like their female counterparts); they did not clean the bathroom (like their female counterparts); they did not change the bed sheets (like their female counterparts); and were generally very lazy. The female cleaners were generally friendly but again, things were not cleaned properly, particularly the bathroom.
In a nutshell - tourism is non existent here and I feel they don’t like tourists. I would avoid it.
