we were here for two night in a twin room, room was comfortable and clean if a little small, beds were a little narrow for me but decent sleep was had, quiet rooms. free on street parking. no breakfast option but plenty of options around. host nice a friendly. good free wifi.
This is a difficult review to write.......
It is a cheap pension not a more expensive hotel.
My single room was very small (with a good size private bathroom) with enough room for a bed, a small chair & a small table. It was clean and, for the price, perfectly acceptable. There was a juliet balcony which was good to have. The bathroom was well-fitted, clean and with a good size private shower.
The owners were pleasant and welcoming.
I was there for three nights and got little sleep for the first two!!! This ISN'T the fault of the owners. There was a group of loud people in the pedestrian lane outside the hotel. It sounded like some kind of party. They kept up a constant noise until gone midnight which made sleep impossible. Then, after I had finally nodded off, a smaller group passed by at about 4 o'clock waking me up again. This left me struggling for the rest of the day. Even on the third night cat fights broke my sleep more than once.
It's difficult to complain about an otherwise OK place that was spoiled by things beyond their control.
It's in easy walking distance of the modern shopping area and the older extremely attractive historical sites.
On a two-week trip to Andalucia, this room was our least expensive. Accordingly, our room was small and basic, with an airshaft view, but the airshaft was decorated with pretty pottery. It was clean and everything was fine, no complaints. The AC worked, and we enjoyed the jigsaw puzzle versions of paintings in the rooms and hallways.
The location is quite good, although it's tucked away, and it's easy to get lost in Cordoba.
Pension El Portillo is a clean, comfortable, very affordable accommodation option in Córdoba. It is not fancy or luxurious but it has all the basics plus some charm. All rooms contain a private bathroom which is very good for the price. Wifi is free and signal is good but it is switched off overnight which is frustrating. Walls are thin so you can hear others but this is only a problem if other rooms are being loud. The pension is run by a family who were friendly and welcoming although they spoke little English.
The location, whilst on a map may not seem to be exactly in the middle of everything in Córdoba, is excellent. Cordoba is tiny so the pension is within walking distance of everything - whichever direction you head you will come upon noteworthy places. Also there are numerous cafes and restaurants in close proximity. I liked the way the pension was a bit hidden in the maze of streets but close to sights without being in a touristy area. It is right off Calle San Fernando where buses go (including the number 3 from the train station).
I found Pension El Portillo to be a great base for exploring Cordoba and the room was very cosy and perfectly clean, if simple.
Compare to other hotels in this localization, Pension El Portillo is very cheap place. 5 min to Mezquita by foot.
Hotel is really cosy, nicely decorated, crew is always very helpful. Room was quite small, but enough. Neighboorhood is quiet and peaceful. What's more, door is always closed, you have to call the bell and then the crew opens them, so you can be sure that noone from outsite would come and disturb.
It's too bad that there is no kitchen, so it's not possible to make any food there or buy breakfasts. I also missed kettle, tea or coffee in room. It might disturb especially if you spend there more than one or two nights.
