I last stayed here in December 2016 , I thought as I had a night out in Cardiff and needed a place to stay I would try the hotel again. The staff are fine , no issues with them at all. In fact they are a credit to the establishment and the check in and out was really easy. The breakfast was nice enough and you can't fault the location at all, The room itself was small , the single bed in an alcove so not much space at all. The shower had little pressure and it took ages to warm up yo a decent temperature. It did it's job for one night and I only saw one room so I may be doing the hotel a disservice. I would stay again as it's convenience outweighs the negatives. There is no lift and a lot of stairs so be warned.
Mould was found all over the hotel room. In the corners of the bedroom, by the window and around the bathtub. The TV was faulty then the manager admitted he had no idea how to fix the tv. Then after changing it to a new tv he admitted the new tv in the room is not secure and could fall off the wall if touched. There is water stain marks down the wall of the bedroom and bathroom.
If you are one for nightlife then this is the place to stay - just be aware that it does get rather noisy when the bars/pubs/clubs start closing in the early hours. The bed was comfortable and the temperature inside was perfect for the time of the year. The only downfall was the cleanliness of the room, mainly the bathroom.
Do not stay at this hotel ! I paid a stupid amount to stay here for one night - the worst hotel I stayed in and the price did not even include breakfast ! The bathroom is very dangerous. Very out dated and old fashioned . Old style shower that is controlled by the taps but the shower is fixed to the wall so you can only adjust it when u are stood under it!! The shower glass does not work and the bathroom floor gets flooded . The room was cold and we had to use towels as draft excluders under the doors . The price I paid was over double there usual price I have discovered and that was through booking.com who I complained too - they sent emails to the hotel who have not replied - what a surprise . I expect they are in undated with complaints. There was a private party on the night we stayed . Our room was directly above the speakers which finished at 1am- surely they should had put someone who was attending the party in that room . We could not even hear the tv! Reception staff were inattentive.
Five friends stayed here for a couple of days in November. The reception and the lowest rooms are on the first floor, which are reached by a climb up the stairs as there is no lift in this hotel. This is a budget hotel where although the rooms and beds are clean there are no frills. The room I stayed in did not have heating in the bathroom, but there was plenty of hot water for a shower.
The location was good, right on the main street, a short walk from the station, however this meant that it could be noise and although we were there on a Wednesday and Thursday night we were woken both nights by noisy revelers, in the early hours of the morning.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was tasty and well prepared. there was the added bonus of free entry into the Jazz Club downstairs which we enjoyed.
