Date of stay: October 2020
Sylvia and I first visited the Rockcliffe Hotel (located on the North Promenade) last October and I will say that after our return home I did not post a review. What I will say now about our visit last October is that the hotel did need a lot of work TLC to be done. But this was not the fault of the Mike or Jacqui (they are the new owners of the hotel having just recently purchased the establishment).
Now for our review of our second visit. We stayed at the Rockcliffe from Monday 5th October to Friday 9th October 2020. We visited Blackpool to celebrate Sylvia's 60th Birthday.
On our arrival which was earlier that the 3pm checking in time we were met by Mike who welcomed Sylvia and I with a greeting of welcome back and we were allowed to check in when we arrived instead of waiting until 3pm (thankyou Mike)
Before we moved to our room we were provided with a detailed brief regarding the restrictions and rules as a result of the Covid-19 virus. I have to say that during our stay we felt very safe whilst staying and that the Rockcliffe is in my opinion Covid safe.
When we arrived in our room 2nd floor sea view I have to say looking back at the room that we stayed in last year it was very obvious that Mike and Jacqui had done a lot of work and the room had been decorated and it was well presented and clean. We had plenty of very clean bath towels provided for our stay. The rook had a double and single bed with a large bay window which was great to sit at first thing on a morning and just watch the time go by with the sea crashing up against the sea wall.
After unpacking we both went for a walk on the sea front and we also found a great bar called the Duke of York which was recommended by Mike. Having walk for a while we returned to the hotel for an afternoon rest.
The bar at the Rockcliffe opens from 6pm and due to the restrictions put in place because of Covid-19 it closes at 10pm. The bar is very competitively priced I will not say how much a alcoholic drink costs but what I will say you will be surprised and all beers and lagers are served from can's. Again if Mike does not have your tipple then just ask Mike during your fist night and if he can get your tipple he will.
The Rockcliffe only does a breakfast service. I have to say though that the breakfast provided is a great one. You can choose from a variety of cereals, a variety of breads, tea, coffee including percolated coffee and a full English breakfast which is cooked fresh by Mike and brought to your table on a hot plate by the very pleasant hostess Jacqui. On our 2nd day I mentioned that something was missing from the cooked breakfast and on our 3rd day the missing item was included in my plate.
Both Mike and Jacqui are very good hosts and they are also people persons they will come at site and talk with you during the evening whilst sitting in the bar area enjoying a couple of drinks.
The hotel is Covid- 19 safe with every one having to wear a face covering whilst walking around the hotel which includes moving from your room down to the restaurant each morning for breakfast. Also to keep all guests safe they also limit the numbers that can stay, this must impact on the profit margins. This is good to sea that guests and being put before profit thankyou for Mike and Jacqui.
The hotel does have some off street parking available, but the parking at the front of the hotel is limited. The management do not offer any reserve parking so it first come first served. There is further parking to the rear of the hotel and there is a council operated car park not fat away from the hotel.
Northing to do with the hotel but I have to say that during this visit it is clear to see that the pandemic has had a big impact on the area with lots of local businesses being shut and with lots of small B&B's closed and some larger hotels also closed.
I shall now close this review by saying a very big thankyou to Mike and Jacqui for looking after Sylvia and I during our stay and we will certainly be returning. I can highly recommend the Rockcliffe Hotel to anyone who is thinking of visiting Blackpool who are wanting a place to stay and rest having had a busy day in the resort. This hotel is a medium sized family run hotel so please don't expect what you would get in one of the larger establishments.
