First of all...I am missing Portulano already LOL. I still can't believe...only with about 2.5 hours-3 hours drive from the capital, there is a "paradise". I might say that this is one of the best diving trips ever and the next time I decide to have a vacation in Philippines, Portulano will definitely be one of the top choices. Just imagine this...You wake up at 6 a.m...what you will see is the perfect sea view with crystal clear water...have a wash up and breakfast will be ready by 7 a.m...and after that off you gooooo for some great dives for the day! And the best part for me is after the day dives and nice hot shower...I will just proceed to the entertainment floor with my drink (you can find pool and pingpong tables and also a living room for you to watch movies) at level 3 to watch the beautiful sunset...ahh...what a perfect day in a wonderful resort. Well...at night before you go to sleep, you can just spend your time at the common lounge area...listening to music...sipping your drink, just relaxing.

My brother and I, love all the staff here. They are so friendly and full of smiles (not forgetting 2 of the cute, eager to play doggies, Bower and Tank). The food is good and it is served in buffet style every single mealtime. And not forgetting that I was addicted to their desert called mango and banana biscuit float if I am not wrong...simply marvelous taste!

The only setback for the resort is the wifi speed...it can get frustrating at times, but it is just a little problem which I don't think it is a problem at all actually (buy your own philippine 3g simcard!), because we are there to get away from bustling city life...and just eat, sleep, dive, repeat! (that's how life should be). One more thing is that you might want to bring your own snacks and drinks, since the resort is quite secluded and you wont be able to go to any kind of your desired convenience stores or malls or shops.

OVERALL: 5/5

I stayed here during the Holy Week holidays in April and got the fan room. There are only 2 fan rooms at the resort and they're located below the owners' family home and it has a nice view of the water. It also lent to my feeling of being isolated (which was what I wanted) because even if there was a couple staying beside my room, we were far enough away that I didn't notice them. The electric fan in the room is angled perfectly so I didn't get hot during the night even though I closed all the windows and doors. There were ample pillows on the bed and the decor was perfect for the resort. The bathroom was adequate though I had an "eek" moment when I wanted to use the pail and out came all these black ants. The staff took care of it right away.

The owners made me feel right at home and unless you're asocial, their friendliness was what made my stay enjoyable. I dove with Carmella most of the time and she showed me lots of things, I especially liked the Bahura (?) dive site just off a little rock where another resort is perched. It was a wall dive with lots of soft corals, resident frog fish (biggest I've seen so far). Being photographers themselves, they were great to dive with since I'm also a photographer and they'll show you the things worth taking photos of. We also saw a sea turtle when I was there. I like the diving better at the Bauan side than the Anilao side because there are less resorts and hence less impact of divers on the reefs there.

The daily buffet was delicious and varied and dinner was always held down by the pier so guests can enjoy the breeze (can get a bit windy at times but it was great). The shakes were reasonably priced and came in big glasses, snacks were always served too.

The lounge area is just a big living room where you can surf the net, read up on the animals you've seen or just hang out. The best part of the resort is the balcony up stairs where they've put up bamboo lounges with hammocks and lots and lots of big pillows. I spent most of my surface time up there just enjoying the scenery and quiet.

The parking is at someone's house near the shore and the owner of the house (not the resort) charged me 100 pesos a day.

All in all I loved this place and will definitely return!

Going to Portulano will require a 2-hour drive to San Luis, Batangas + a quick 10-minute boat ride via their own private boats. Unknown to MM-based beach bummers, this is a great alternative if you’re trying to locate the closest beach from the hustle and bustle of the city. The popular choices of course are Nasugbu and San Juan (Laiya) resorts, but Portulano poses a big threat to overtake these more familiar choices.
Note to all comers though, Portulano is an exclusive resort, great for intimate outings or for relaxing escapades. The greatest value the Portulano offers is the rich marine life that you can see right in front (house reef) of the resort, which experienced divers and novices alike can truly appreciate. The area might be small but that is what also the resort benefits from – the charm of getting people and visitors together makes you be pleased about the overall vibe of Portulano.
The resort offers exquisite views from inside your room, and lounging areas at any floor. The game room at the top floor is for those who are looking for some activity if you are done with Scuba-diving and from just being steady and chilling around. Every staff are keen to take care of what you need and they never go wrong in the buffet meals that they serve.
We were 12 in the group with toddlers, and all of us had a great and relaxing time here. We will be back for sure!

WiFi signal is not strong, but is a great place for self reflection.

I was there for a diving trip, and only way go get there is via plane to Manila, and a minivan trip to the jetty. Last but not least, 10 mins boat ride to the resort chartered by the resort.

Overlooking the sea, it provides great sunrise and sunset view, and waking up to the sound of waves running in and out is just too awesome.

Crew is helpful, and if we need anything from the city, the crew is kind to help us get it when they travel out to do errands.

They also have a entertainment room which comprises of table tennis, dvd player etc during our non-diving period, and also hammocks for those who love it.

Food wise is not comparable with city hotels, but is buffet style and satisfactory.

Experience 3.5/5

The resort is for people who are looking to experience
a relaxing getaway while learning to master Diving.

Though I did not try my hand at diving and do not have
any experience at all, I can see that the resort comes
quite equipped for the basic necessities of diving.

Location 3/5

From Manila, it took us about a 2-3 hour drive which makes
this place very convinient. We had to park our car on the other
side of the beach as riding the boat was the fastest way to
get to the resort.

The Boat while very capable of bringing us to and from the place
may not be for children but once you get across, the experience is
worth it.

Room 4/5

The Rooms here are beautiful even though there was no wifi and no tv,
the design and ambience was nice.

Though realisticaly, people should come here if they want to disconnect and relax.

Food 2.5/5

The food was good, lightly salted and was filling. Though I wish
that there were more variations to the food and that they room service past 5pm.

Amenities 3/5

The place has a Salt Water Dive Pool which is well maintained and is used to train.
A Game Room for those who wants to hang out though some of the games are no longer
well maintained i.e. Table Tennis and Billiards.

Staff: 4/5

The Staff takes care of their guests, does their best to provide all the needs of everyone.

Overall:

I think the place is good for Divers and Guests, Smart LTE Signal here is not very good but
Globe seems have better coverage here.
