My husband and I stayed at Portulano Dive Resort for two nights in November. There was ample parking provided and we were picked up by their small boat. The boat trip is only 5 to 10 minutes up the coast line. The moment we arrived we felt welcomed and at home, the check in procedure was seamless.
The room we stayed in was clean and a generous size, with a very comfortable bed and a beautiful sea view. We chose a room with no air conditioning and were pleased to have the doors wide open all night, enjoying the fresh sea air. Mosquito netting was provided, which we used, but we didn’t notice any mosquitoes at all. There are also rooms available with air conditioning.
The rates include 3 meals a day. The food is delicious and there is enough of a selection to please everyone. On the first night there was a seafood barbecue which was a delicious surprise! Breakfast is cooked for you, while you wait. The kitchen staff were friendly and helpful, they let me know what the gluten free options were and took care with my food! Much appreciated!!
The resort has many cozy nooks to curl up with a book or have a nap. There is also a pool table, dart board and children’s toys in the open air, recreation area.
The salt water pool is a decent size on the waters edge. The dive staff are extremely professional and the equipment was good quality. You can dive and snorkel right in front of the resort, if you choose to.
We were pleased to meet the friendly owners/operators of the resort and must compliment them on how well run and clean the resort is. We have just booked a second stay and are excited to go back!

I booked a last minute getaway from Manila, literally last minute, like I was already on the 3 hr bus ride who U sttarted contacting dive resorts. Portulano respondd promptly. The resort is vertically bult into a hill so there is a lot of up and down steps, especially being on the top floor. But the room was a great value for te money and the view was stunning. The service was gracious and my dive guide Toi was well-versed wit the dive sites.

I only was there 2 nights and the meals were fine, but they really never inched into delicious threshold. If I had to stay there much beyong a couple of nights, I think I would have been a bit stifled by the lack of menu choices, and the only other option being a boat ridde to the village. So, to be clear, the food was more than satiisfactory but not worty oof all the oter 5 star aspects of the resort.

Thank you for your review, we're glad you enjoyed your stay. With regards to our food, many of our guests give us very good reviews on the food we serve. Perhaps the comparison to a 5 star hotel spread causes disappointment in terms of menu choices or even menu style. Our food style is not commercialised at all. DELICIOUS is also subjective, we do not make our food very savory, nor salty but use minimal seasoning and avoid MSG altogether. We have freshly baked wheat bread, homemade jams, brick oven baked & roasted porquettas, chicken, pasta and more, we only use fresh tomatoes for our sauces, no canned products and also use fresh herbs straight from our herb garden. We believe healthy choices, using fresh ingredients and bringing out the flavor of the meats and seafood we use. We find that savory, tasty meals wear us and our guests out and where food is too seasoned and flavored, the tendency is to get tired of it. Mild natural flavors, fresh and healthy is our style. We are also constantly looking to add to our menu, and from this feedback we will look again into which selections we can change for the better. But our spread is simple featuring: salads, seafood, poulty, meat, soup, pasta/rice and dessert, we also cater to vegetarians and gluten free requests. Giving a wider spread will have to increase prices beyond what guests normally find comfortable specially for long stays. Presenting extra choices at extra cost is an option. The lack of menu choices is also tied into the price range. The price you pay for a larger spread is at least 3 times what you pay in our place, our buffet meals cost only USD 13, just a little more of what you would pay for in an IN and OUT burger place so with the kind of fresh and handmade selection you get, it is very good. Comparing it to a 5 star hotel spread which costs about at least 30-40USD would be quite unfair in that sense, same thing with a good sumptuous dinner in the Makati area which costs about the same on a plated meal.

To get to this resort, you must arrive by boat, which is about 15 mins from the end of the road. Getting to the resort was a piece of cake. We got there and Daisy assigned us to a bottom floor rood. Very nice room but soon it was obvious that the AC would not handle the room size. So without a hiccup they moved my son and I up to a second floor with new AC. The room was excellent, but the mattress pad was a little thin for me with my back. There is no TV or internet. Also this is not the kind of place for beach goers. This is strictly a dive resort. They have a shop for rentals. I always bring my own stuff. My old dive master from Coron worked there now and we went for an afternoon dive right away. Great dive masters there. Nothing big or plush about the dive boat. We only had to go 15 minutes to the dive site. Got back and dinner is served in a smorgasbord style. The whole time I was there, I really enjoyed the stay, even if it was just for 2 nights. Made a lot of friends. So what I am saying is that if you want a nice quiet, peaceful place to stay and dive, this is it. It is so isolated that we did not even have to lock the doors.

Thanks for your feedback, the AC in the room you first stayed in is due for replacement and upgrade during the off season: August 2018, same with the mattresses. Just a note that the resort is not strictly just for divers, but a great place for skin divers, snorkelers, paddle boarders and kayaks, where there is abundant marine life to discover. But yes, not for your typical beach experience where there is a sandy beach you can wade in.

Experience 3.5/5

The resort is for people who are looking to experience
a relaxing getaway while learning to master Diving.

Though I did not try my hand at diving and do not have
any experience at all, I can see that the resort comes
quite equipped for the basic necessities of diving.

Location 3/5

From Manila, it took us about a 2-3 hour drive which makes
this place very convinient. We had to park our car on the other
side of the beach as riding the boat was the fastest way to
get to the resort.

The Boat while very capable of bringing us to and from the place
may not be for children but once you get across, the experience is
worth it.

Room 4/5

The Rooms here are beautiful even though there was no wifi and no tv,
the design and ambience was nice.

Though realisticaly, people should come here if they want to disconnect and relax.

Food 2.5/5

The food was good, lightly salted and was filling. Though I wish
that there were more variations to the food and that they room service past 5pm.

Amenities 3/5

The place has a Salt Water Dive Pool which is well maintained and is used to train.
A Game Room for those who wants to hang out though some of the games are no longer
well maintained i.e. Table Tennis and Billiards.

Staff: 4/5

The Staff takes care of their guests, does their best to provide all the needs of everyone.

Overall:

I think the place is good for Divers and Guests, Smart LTE Signal here is not very good but
Globe seems have better coverage here.

Our room was facing the bay. Excellent friendly staff. We snorkeled, swam, relaxed, read, played pool/table tennis, exercised in the morning, met people from different countries. Overall, great experience!
