koo koo's nest ? Where do I start. They should rename it bug pit. My wife and I booked three nights at the end of our holiday. My wife and I arrived on the 27th February in the afternoon. After walking down a lot of steep steps we were greeted by one of the owners a lady called nikki and four dogs. We were shown to the kingfisher suite which is right next to the dining area. We dumped our luggage and went for a cold drink. That evening we joined the owners and other guests for the buffet dinner we wished we had not because the dogs are allowed all over the dinning area and beg. The bar shuts at nine so we went back to the kingfisher suite and realised that half the lights did not work and has only one plug socket which is for the fan and this limited where you could have the fan. We went to bed and had a really bad nights sleep. We woke up with joints hurting and been bitten several times by mosquitos and ants. Due to the lack of sleep our day was a right of .The second night was just as bad and you have to contend with the fishing boats engine noise , the restaurant bar area is swept and tables and chairs are moved around at 7 am , a staff member rakes the beach and moves around the beach chairs and loungers at the same time. My wife had even more bites so we decided to take a closer look at the bed and mosquito netting. The mattress was like an old smelly gym mat, the sheets were stained and the pillows had black mould stains on them. The mosquito netting was old and smelly and had several holes in it. We made a decision that we were not going to stay the third night. We told the owner nickki that we would like to check out and pay the bill, she did not even ask us why. On receiving the bill we had been charged for three nights even though we had only stayed for two. We refused to pay for the third night and were then asked why. We told her we had had two very bad nights sleep and that the bedding was filthy at this point she became rather rude and demanded to see for herself. We showed her the stained sheets, stained mattress, holes in mosquito netting and the mouldy pillows. She said I was being picky then left our kingfisher suite and reduced the bill back to two night. Not at any point was their an apology . This women is so far up her own backside . What else to look out for. dog mess on beach rats running around chewing at night . Now the good points food is ok but takes a very long time to arrive the view from beach is good, our last opinion on the koo koo,s nest is don't be fooled by the website you would be better off booking into Auschwitz. If you smoke don't go here.
We had been told about this secluded haven while staying in a resort up the coast. Due to a cancelled ferry and a change in plans we were lucky enough to stay for four days.
The resort comprises of 6 bamboo cottages all cooled by sea breezes. Our cottage (Kingfisher) had two bedrooms and a balcony which had a hammock and a large area to sit and relax.
The House reef is beautiful and has many different corals and fish. There are other sheltered dive sites in the area. We were there during bad weather so really appreciated this sheltered cove. During our stay we were also able to dive at Apo Island we visited three different sights which were great.
The food available in the resort is delicious Nikki selects top quality produce and the results are yummy. Even the sandwiches include little touches such as home grown herbs and are made with freshly home baked bread. The bacon and ham are home cured and the sausages are made by Jamie. The jams and marmalade are home made too.
The buffet which is served every evening is delightfully varied and excellent value. Everybody shares a communal table which is a great opportunity to chat to other guests the dining room has a great atmosphere and the background music is good.
Nikki and Jamies pets are good company too. I felt honoured the cat chose my lap to sit on on several occasions! The four dogs are all very friendly too.
Our plan is to pop in for another culinary treat before we leave the area. We would like to return for a longer stay in the future.
My family and I checked out after 1 night of a supposedly 2 night stay. I was traveling with 3 kids (9, 7 and 4) and eating in a reasonable amount of time when they're hungry is important to me.
During dinner our first night, our dinner which I ordered hours beforehand arrived around 40 minutes late. The kids' dessert did not come even if the waitstaff said it was ready. So my daughter and I went to the kitchen to see what was happening. I asked when the dessert will come out and they said soon. So we just watched observing.
The owner passed by and said "They're busy, don't watch."
I said, "isn't this what the window is for? So we can watch them cook? (with a smile - non-combative).
Then she just said again, They're busy. Don't watch. And walked off.
So this left a sour note in my mouth and I told my husband about it. We decided to checkout the next day (after spending 1 more day in the beautiful beach and pre-ordering food 1 hour before we actually wanted to eat).
I really found the beach beautiful and was hesitant to leave a very negative review. IN fact, we already imbibed the wait patiently for the food to show up and not be on a sched vibe.
But what took the cake was when we were leaving, I saw the owner again, on the hammock, resolutely trying to read her book and not even look up and say good bye. And I was walking with 3 kids making a ruckus and it's impossible not to notice us. So overall, as a guest, I felt offended overall.
pros: beautiful secluded beach, marine life near the shore, no waves, fast wifi, food tastes great, very affordable room and food
cons: food arrives after 30 mins - 1 1/2 hours (even preordered scheduled food), towels are not replenished, sheets are not made up, cottage is dusty, you will want to wear slippers in the bathroom, water stained toilet bowl, out of 2 lightbulbs in the bathroom, 1 is not working
It's like owner opened up their home to you and decided to charge cheaply but you are there on her good graces. You won't get any professionalism or courtesy here.
We spent 2 nights in a fabulous bamboo hut. The best we have ever seen. It s rustic but beautiful. You can open the wooden stores and completely open the room and the terasse, enjoy a hammock with a sunset view.
The food is also great. Depending on affluence, they propose a buffet, always tasty and healthy. Home made bread, crepes and cocktails are highly recommended.
The beach is also very nice and only used by customers so you can expect a lot of space for you. Good snorkeling spot in addition to that and it s 30min away from the harbour to go to apo island.
The hotel is a little difficult to reach but you have to deserve a place like that. We recommend to ask the owner to organize a pick up by van, or by motorbike if you have light bags. Tricycle will really struggle in the last 500m.
Thanks a lot, we had a great time here !
Room is nice and very authentic, every room has bathroom and a fan.
Food is just great and the prices are awesome ;) and a buffet every evening is very family-like.
Pier is nice to chill and swim even though the beach is hard for getting into the water.
Jamie and Nikki are friendly and always ready to help.
It was a perfect retreat and we really wish to come back, and this time - for much longer!
