Well, I decided to give this place a try on my most recent trip. I came away with mixed feelings (as usual).
Pro: The room is a little larger than some other budget places I've stayed. It seemed reasonably clean, albeit a little dusty here and there (possibly due to the practice of leaving the windows cracked open for circulation.).
There is a kitchenette and a refrigerator (the stove needs to be lit manually).
The location is good - two/three blocks from the tourist area/malecon. The city government complex, including post office, and la estacion de policia federal (yep, Los Federales!)(Do NOT trifle with those guys!) is directly across the street. This would, I hope, tend to promote a safer surrounding area.
The San Nicolas/Caliente Casino is but a block away if that's your thing.
The hot water is hot!
Good TV service, including English-language channels from San Diego. No Porn. (Good or bad, depending on your preferences)
The Wi-Fi signal is a bit weak, but seemed to be consistently available.
Con: This place is showing its age. Low gas pressure to the stove, minor leaks in the plumbing, a bit of uneven settling... - you get the idea.
No Air conditioning - not a major issue except in deep summer in Ensenada.
My bed was definitely on the firm side. Seems to be a common characteristic in this motel.
View out the front window was the parking lot for guest's cars (paved).
View out the back window was a parking lot for junk cars (unpaved).
The room is poorly lit at night, exacerbated by the dark varnished wood ceiling. Bring a flashlight and/or a battery lantern if you need to work at the desk.
Keep this one in your arsenal of possible places to stay if all you need is a clean dry place to sleep.
I am 21 years old and I've been staying here since I have been coming with my parents yearly for as long as I can remember. I noticed this place only has 1 bad review, which Is for the wifi. Why do you come to Mexico to be on the Internet? For the great price you pay staying here im surprised theres wifi($28 or so a night)This place is amazing. I've never had any problems here and I've been staying here every year since I was 8 until I recently came with my friends for the first time. Rooms are comfty and quiet, walls stop all sound from other rooms from passing through. If you want to save more money or enjoy a home cooked meal get a room that has a kitchen, which comes with a good modern fridge w/freezer , stove , table And some pots and plates they have there in the kitchen cabinets. The cleaning lady does a good job and don't worry she's not a thief :)
Also literally around 200 feet away from the motel is the center of ensenada (clubs , restaurants , stores etc)
There are no bed bugs or roaches in the motel rooms, police station is right in front of the motel so you'll be nice and safe , and it's a great place to stay at. That's about all i can think of so I hope this helps all :)
P.s I went August 2013 and mexico is safe and lots of people having a good time at night don't worry about all the cartel scares, we had our dslrs all day and no probs at all. Just the obvious of walking alone at night Etc that you wouldn't do here in the u.s either. Enjoy ! :)
Stayed ther twice March 18th, and March 22nd of this year. Four of us in the room which had a kitchen 550 pesos. The kitchen super clean, cold refrigerator, stove worked well, they supplied dishes, plenty of hotwater, good television receiption had two tvs, only thing missing was a swimming pool but for 550 pesos, super large place, super clean, great customer relations, safe area, one block to oxxo which stayed open all night, half a block to the gas station and far enough from the tourist traps but close enough to walk there. I recommend with not just 5 stars but six. Cant wait to go again. They are constantly improving the place. Just a secret I stayed in room 13. And the manager/owner.and his family were super friendly. Viva Motel America
We were first shown room 16 with a kitchen and breakfast bar. The bed was really hard and the room cold. We ended up in room 3 which was closer to the office, warmer, had good wifi and a bigger kitchen with a round table, tv and better all round. The owners gave us some pots and pans to use and there is a great supermarket close by. It is a basic motel but clean and very good value at 320 pesos a night.
