Located at the eastern end of Bapor Kibra, Ocean Resort Condos are a great choice for families/groups looking for 2 and 3 bedroom condos.
While each condo is individually owned, ours was clean and comfortable. Opting for an upper floor condo for better views and breezes, the patio was a great place to sit while eating, having a cocktail, or just enjoying the views. The resort is situated directly behind the Sea Aquarium, and we were able to watch dolphins swimming and jumping throughout the day, as well as catch part of the shows.
A small lagoon separates the resort from the aquarium. We snorkeled/swam/rafted in the lagoon several times. It's worth noting that there is usually a current flowing through the lagoon. If your not a average or better swimmer, you can just ride the current under the bridge to the aquarium and exit at the beach next door at the Lion's Dive resort. There is a private beach for Ocean Resort owners and guests situated at the far end of the complex near the opening to the lagoon.
The pool is basic, but big enough to enjoy with deck furniture available. The grounds are well landscaped and we saw numerous birds and lizards.
Our unit had a full kitchen, including a refrigerator, dishwasher, cook top and small oven - oven and cook top were very different than US appliances and took some work to figure out.
The location was excellent. As a diving family, we were next door to Ocean Encounters, a terrific full service dive shop. Just past that was Lion's Dive resort, with a couple of restaurants and a great house reef. Mambo beach with a small shopping mall and a number of restaurants and clubs was just past Lion's Dive.
Our favorite place to eat and drink was Hemingways' the open air bar and restaurant at Lion's Dive. The resort is also a short drive, 15-20 minutes, from historic Willemstad, about 5-10 minutes from the nearest supermarket, yet very quiet as it's at the end of the road, backing to a large, undeveloped natural area near Jan Thiel Bay.
The only issues we had were probably condo specific. Only about 1/2 the lights were working for the first half of our trip. Neither the manager nor electrician could figure it out, but they suddenly started working one day - coinciding with the couple in the lower unit arriving. I suspect they also noticed an issue and fixed it, not realizing it affected us as well. On the last day, we had water dripping from the ceiling of our bathroom and discovered the water heater in the attic area next to the upper floor bedroom was leaking. I also wasn't a huge fan of the narrow stair case leading to our main floor, and the front door only locked by a keyed deadbolt, which would never pass a fire inspection here in the states.
I will definitely consider staying here again.
We stayed with friends at Ocean Resorts and found this 2 bedroom condo brilliant for all our needs. The pool, grounds and private beach was great. Yes the room could have done with being aired a little as it smelt a bit musty but it soon disappeared.
We stayed at Unit 1, Building 7. The apartment is very nice and the property could not be better located. It has its own private beach and pool which our kids enjoyed.
Next to the Condo complex you have the Sea Aquarium and three hotels ( Lions Dive, The Dolphin Suites and the Royal Curacao) A restaurant at Lions Dive called Hemingway's served nice food while you sat under a Bohio or Palapa facing into a private beach which our kids enjoyed while the food was being prepared. Next to Lions Dive private beach you find this connecting to another famous beach of Curacao called Mambo Beach ( not my cup of tea) but worth getting to know it.
There is no doubt that this is a high standard property but I do have some minor complains. When we arrived, the apartment smelled as if it had been locked up for a while and that no one took the effort to air it before the arrival of guests. We had to air it for about three hours before we could lock up and start to enjoy our holiday. As the apartment is on a ground floor we could not leave it unnatended. While we were doing this I found out that the washer and drier were not working. We called the management company and this was sorted out immediately. However, we were promised that a couple of lightbulbs and spotlights would be replaced after the 25th of Dec but this did not happened. At night, we could not see well in the kitchen due to this.
Another aspect that annoyed me was the cleaning service. For the rental price paid, this should never be an issue. The terrace was full with leaves and the lounge chairs were wet due fonrain. This shows a bit of dissorganization as a guest should never find a property like this and the managemsnt company should be careful in procuring that a 5star property should not be like this. One of the toilets, the one in the main bedroom had not been cleaned properly and I had to swipe it to clean away fecal matter. I had to buy cleaning wipes at a local supermarket since the owner did not leave a broom, a mop or any cleaning liquids behind. This is my opinion is a mistake since the owner should not save expense in providing this sort of essential cleaning equipment. People are not going to buy a broom or a mop for a short stay! This can also help in keeping the place tidy until the day of the cleaning arrives.
Also, about the cleaning service provided regularly at the property, for me this is not a cleaning job but a quick fix job.. Every 3-4 days (you never knew for sure when this would take place), a lady came to change the linen and to mop the floor. She also took the garbage out. I am not sure if the floor was swiped with a broom as all I could see she had with her was a mop. The lady did not clean the kitchen nor she cleaned the table outside in the terrace nor the one inside in the living room.
Another complain I have is MOSQUITOS. The windows nor doors lack of nets, something essential in the Caribbean. December proved to be mosquito season and although we aired the property daily, we had to lock all doors and windows before the sun came down as mosquitos increased at night.
Finally, we were promised, among ammenities of the property, the use of a safety deposit box. However, although we were given a key for this, the box had a combined sysrem of a code entered aside from the use of a key. The box was left closed by the owners and we could never use it for ourselves as the key itself was not good enough to open it. So, we could never use it.
We rented a car and parked it inside the property. The access to the Condo was by means of a numeric key you had to enter into a keypad. No remote control was provided and forced us in and out of the car everytime time we wished to get in and out of the building.
There was a supermarket at a reasonable distance by car and heared that you could also use a private shuttle next door at the hotel to go shopping (do not know to which market).
The Wifi worked pretty well while on the property and the air conditioners also worked well.
