From Simala, we hit a ride going Bangcogon where the receiving area/ drop off point is. Enjoyed our welcome drinks when the boat arrived. We intended to settle at front seat to get the best view and captures, unaware that waves are enough to welcome us at the island wet😂.

We were stunned by the beautiful and relaxing view when we stepped the island. Trekking was one of the highlights as it will give you a view the beach area and lagoon from hilltop. Going around this small island only requires a little energy, just need to follow signs and directions. The lighthouse, the sandbar and their infinity pool are just few of those you'll surely wish to post at social media sites. At night, the sound of waves makes you forget your busy city-life.

The crew were very helpful and the food was great!

My wife and I were so hyped to spend a night at Sumilon Island Resort during our honeymoon. Unfortunately, we left feeling totally ripped off.

While the island is beautiful, the food is decent and we had a great romantic dinner at the lagoon, the so-called “resort” is being taken over by the “day-tour” visitors every single day.

The price for the cheapest room is around 200 USD, while the day-tour costs only 30 USD and allows the tourists to use all the amenities of the resort the entire day, including the pool, beach, kayaking in the lagoon, the white sandbar and much more. They also get a full buffet lunch.

Due to the 100 tourists coming to the island everyday using the day-tour package, the island doesn’t feel private at all, as a resort should be. The day-tour visitors take over all the seats at the pool and the cabanas at the beach. The white sandbar is everyday totally occupied.

Day-tour visitors basically pay a tenth of what a real guest pays and they get to enjoy all the benefits the island has to offer including all the resort amenitiez. We often even felt these visitors received more attention from the staff than we did.

We felt very disappointed and believe Sumilon Island Resort should rethink the day-tour package they offer to tourists visiting the island for 1 day. It really makes you as a overnight staying guest feel ripped off for what you’ve paid. You could easily sleep at the mainland for just 20 USD / night and take the day-tour everyday for 30 USD / day and you’ll have the same experience for 80 USD instead of minimum 200 USD / night to sleep at the island itself. This is probably what a lot of people are doing and I can’t blame them.

We were also amazed that you need to pay extra for mineral water. You only get 2 very small complimentary bottles of water in the room everyday. For such a so-called high-end resort, you would expect the water to be free for guests. Ironically, the day-tour visitors get a bottle of mineral water as well which is included in the 30 USD price.

Also to be noted, the pool and the villas are outdated and need to be renewed. Especially the pool really needs work.

This island has so much potential as a real getaway resort, unfortunately it’s far from what you would expect it to be and how it looks like on pictures and videos.

If you expect a private island resort, then this is not the place to go. My wife and I wish someone would have warned us, hence this review.

Arriving at the dock, we were checked in, given refreshments and since we couldn't wait for the boat, we had a special trip prepared. The boat ride was uneventful. We had the first room by the front. The area through was rocky so for swimming it is advisable that we go to the back where it was white sand. There were no reclining seats there to sunbath or any form of shade. From the restaurant and looking down, I found this to be true. I ended up spending time at the swimming pool. Our room was spacious and clean. The worst part really was the food. Even if we just stayed for the weekend, the choices were so limited and unpalatable. Although the prices were extorbitant which is understandable since it is a resort island, the food was really terrible. I also couldn't understand why room service was not 24 hours. We ended up ordering before their cutoff so we could have something to eat if we get hungry before breakfast. I did not expect the food to be so bad because it carries the Maribago name. It was one of the worst stays I ever had. And I regretted spending my birthday there.

We didnt know about this resort and booked it last minute as we had an extra day left of our amazing vacation in Philippines.

PRO: Resort is really nice, service is impecable I must say (10 our of 10), and the views of the pool and of the jacuzzis is top top top.

CONS: For what you pay, you dont get the privacy considering this is the only resort in the island and therefore you expect the island to just have the guests of the resort. Unfortunately, every day tons (dozens) of tourists and tons of boats come to the island and crowd the superb BUT super small white sand - turquoise water beach.

We were mainly in the island to do snorkelling and discover its underwater beauty, so it was kind of OK to us. But to see the beach like a Boracay one, you dont pay 200 euros / night. Also, the hotel would allow a day pass, so some of these people would come and enjoy the facilities of the hotel...

We stayed in the tents located in the other beach of the island (this one is private). Although the tents were super cute and looked like a room inside (very very nice), the bathroom was shared, the beach was full of stones, plus they were building other tents so this are didnt really seem ready to guest people. No one was actually using and staying in this beach at all.

Lunch buffet and breakfast were pretty good, but the dinner was very basic to be honest.

In overall we had a good experience but a lot of improvement needed for the price you pay.

My friends and I went here for a day tour, which is pegged at Php1,500.00 on weekdays and Php2,000.00 on weekends and holidays. Pretty reasonable. Inclusions are round-trip transfers from Bancogon in Oslob to Sumilon Island (the island is right in the middle of the sea so this is a must), lunch, island activities like snorkeling, trekking and kayaking and use of swimming facilities.

Pros
- The picturesque views.
- Nice activities (trekking, kayaking, snorkeling), but limited. For families, they do have a children's playground.
- Beautiful sandbar, though it can get crowded with guests

Cons
- The food at the Pavilion was disappointing, It was also limited and when some of the food ran out, they were not replenished.
- Obtrusive service. The staff were too loud, would greet us even when we were lounging or engaged in a conversation, etc.
- The "infinity" pool was too small.
- The changing room was not well-kept (always wet, with slipper marks)

My massage: This was not included in the day tour package so I had to pay Php1,500.00 for an hour of their Hilot Lamang. It was okay, but expensive. The therapist just continued with her massage and did not ask me if the pressure was right, etc.

My recommendation: Go here on a weekday. Not only is it cheaper, there will be less people and you don't have to fight over hammocks, loungers, etc.
