Don’t go here... There are some old reviews online (possibly from previous different owners?) that seem pretty good, but that’s not what we experienced.

We stayed 3 nights at Spheredivers. Don’t get me wrong, the location is absolutely beautiful, the ocean view is great and there’s a nice terrace with long chairs outside. Perfect to enjoy the sun and watch sunsets.

But the rooms are definitely not ok. Everything is outdated and broken. The bathroom is disgusting, tiles are falling down from the wall, the shower is cold seawater and the sink is so small you can’t even put your head above it. There are holes under the walls and animals can enter the bathroom through the space between the roof and the ceiling.

We stayed in a room with a private bathroom, but unfortunately we were unable to close the door properly between the room and the bathroom. Therefore we had 1 rat and 2 mice in our room the first night. The second night there was a big fight above the ceiling (in the space between the ceiling and the roof) between the cats and mice. There was a lot of noise for hours and eventually a death mice fell through the broken ceiling into our room! The noise happened every night so we didn’t sleep well at all.

The old fan in the room and the bed are still ok, but the ceiling and floor are completely broken and full of fungus.

To continue, the communication with the staff and the organisation of transport was very difficult as well. When you arrive in Semporna you have to find a different company like scuba Junkie or Uncle Chang to give you a ride to Mabul with one of their boats (75/MYR pp). When you arrive at Mabul it’s also not so easy to find Spheredivers. It’s a maze of wooden walkbridges that are seriously dodgy :)

Anyway there is no communication whatsoever about this. If you call the staff they hardly speak any English. They are not very friendly and the food is the same every day, not that bad, but very basic.

Our conclusion is that the old reviews give a very different image about this place. Either way, we think it’s way too overpriced for what you get, aspecially when you count up every separate thing. You are better off buying a full experience like scuba junkie who gives you the bus transfer from Tawau airport, boat to Mabul and a very nice place to stay with snorkelling/diving opportunities.

We stayed 5 nights and the nights where terrible. The room are very basic. A bed and a fan. Thats it. The window is just a hole in the wall that you can close at night with shutters. At daybreak (sometimes 3am) the power goes down so byebye fan and say halo to the heath. At night there is a lot of noise so take earplugs. BUT! When you leave your room and go out on the deck you forget everything. The view is stunning! There is a lot of room to read, relax and sunbathe. You can jump directly into the water and go snorkeling. There is a reef not far from there so you can swim directly to it whiteout using a boat. They give you a life-vest, flippers and snorkeling gear free of charge. The diving gear isn't really well maintained and the instructors aren't the professional so it isn't the best place to dive with.
Breakfast consists of eggs, noodles, biscuits, thee and water. If asked they will prepare lunch for you.
To get to the homestay you have to walk on a very fragile pier built out of thin slats of wood. Not for the fainthearted!! There is a good place to eat in the evening when you walk down the pier an go directly left.

Basic room, salt water for shower, and if you take dive package with them, the 3x meals is included with the room package which is good! every morning, wait for the local gypsy with their small boat to sell crabs, slipper lobsters, prawn, fishes for super cheap price. I will then pass to the chef for them to cook for my lunch & dinner meal for FREE! no extra charges on that. the staffs are friendly, we went for fishing at the homestay area and barely jumped in the sea at any times! the homestay is a water homestay and budget stay so it was worth with the price paid for!

Underrated place, excellent staff & great hospitality. Food catered to your liking... our room was directly facing the sea... No complaints. Everything was perfect! Even though they didn't have wifi, but honestly you don't need it here. Stargazed every night. One night Mabul was raining shooting stars. AMAZING!!! Highly recommend!

Did my 5d4n Mabul dive trip with Spheredivers.

Basic and clean room, nice and relaxing atmosphere, awesome view, real nice food, and super friendly, helpful and fun Spheredivers' crews. Will definitely go back for my next Mabul dive trip.

Thumbs up for Spheredivers :)
