- the whole building is converted from ancient house and left a lot of ancient deco element
- room is much bigger than mosy of the same class
- extremely convenience (right opp the train stn)
- very nice food and western deco restaurant
- professional japanese style service by staff
- has a lift so no worries on luggages
- the onsen is the only thing a bit disappointing, its very small and wpuld definitely need some brush up
The hotel is in an excellent location, just in front of the JR station!! The room is very good, just feels like going home!
The staff are helpful , all you need to do is ENJOY!
BTW, the cafe of this hotel is the founder of ONSEN COFFEE, coffee lovers should try! Because I think the water from YUZAWA is really delicious!! YES!!!
From the time we walked into the ryokan, we were welcomed with smiles from the staff. This did not change at all throughout our three days stay. The level of hospitality was simply amazing.
The room we stayed in did not have a bath, which was not too big a deal as there was still a toilet and wash basin. We did book the private onsen every evening to enjoy some quiet time without strangers in the beautiful onsen. The private onsen costs about 1800 yen per 50 minutes, and is only available for booking from 2 pm. If you are a bit shy about using the shared onsen which doubles as a shower area, you can try to get up there earlier as I had the place to myself early in the morning.
After checking out in the morning, we left our bags so that we could still get a couple of hours of skiing in before leaving for Tokyo. We asked the staff if we could still use the onsen after skiing, so that we could freshen up. That was not a problem for them at all. In fact, when we came back to the ryokan, we were handed bath towels, all with a smile.
The breakfast spread was elaborate, perhaps a bit more than we were used to. We were in awe at the presentation of every dish, but was only able to eat about half of them.
For skies/snowboarders, the ryokan has a great drying room and space for you to leave your gear.
My only complaint was the heating in the room. For some reason, the room was extremely warm even after we switched off the heater. We ended up sleeping with the windows slightly open even though it was snowing outside. However, with the windows open, the noise from the street did disturb our peaceful sleep. But this was a minor inconvenience which did not overshadow our wonderful experience.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience.
We spend the night in Hatago Isen during our one night trip to Yuzawa. It's located just across the street from Yuzawa train station. Booking was made through their website and we paid after checking out. It was around 30,000 Yen for a night in a 2nd largest room with private onsen called Washitsu-roten. I recommend the room because of the large space, the comfort, and of course, the private onsen. The private onsen is perfect for us! The room also has koutatsu (Japanese table with heater below) and also a large TV but with limited channels.
The hotel staff was extremely polite! First he put our shoes inside the shoe locker but afterwards he noticed we didn't understand the key to open the locker, so he just put our shoes in the drawers. Check-in process was fast and easy, the same with checking out. We checked out early and had our large luggage kept at the lobby.
Overall experience was superb. Definitely recommended!
My sister and I stayed for 2 nights to relax and it was a nice experience. First it's right across the Echigo-Yuzawa station which is very convenient! The rooms are comfy, and getting the one with a private onsen by your room's balcony. This is really awesome so you just take a few steps from your room to soak whenever you want to. There's a choice to get a Japanese massage also. We were surprised it was a heavyset man but no worries because he was very professional, and wearing a Yukata during the entire time is the norm. I think their style is a bit hard and hands could be heavy but he adjusted and knew which parts of the body needed to be targeted, I instantly felt relief after! On food, they have the murangozzo restaurant where we had the Gozzo course, they also have the Mizuya cafe with great iced onsen coffee! The hotel staff are all nice and helpful too, always accommodating and they can guide you if you want to go out and visit nearby tourist spots like the Yuzawa town History and folk museum and Echigoyuzawa Ropeway. It's a very peaceful town so if you want a change from your busy work pace this is a great choice. Just be ready for the budget! With a private onsen it was 21,000 yen per person which includes dinner and breakfast.
