Firstly, the location is great. Away from crowded hotels and market place. Only 500 mtrs from the main Monestary & enroute the Kora walk. One can enjoy the splendid view of the valley from the front porch, with monks walking by their kora walk trail.
Now lets face the beauty. It only comprises 3 rooms with a common sitting area. we booked 2 rooms of same category, however they were lot different. in 1 room microwave was missing and in other refrigerator. Meals are highly overpriced ( 1 tawa chapati for 25 rs ). Although breakfast is included in your package, they have a tiny and fixed menu. You have to pay extra for your kids milk and that too 50 Rs for a CUP of milk. If you have an early check out, they are not going to pack your breakfast, as it is against their policy.
WIFI connectivity is good though.
Guys, my advise is that only stay here if you really want to do kora walks or you have plans to visit Monestary multiple times in a day.
Horizon villa is owned by 2 brothers but operated separately, hence the names North & South. Horizon villa - south is the ground floor of the villa (though the villa itself is located at a height so u still get a good view from south as well). Basically this villa is a holiday home, converted into a homestay type of a hotel. I stayed 2 nights in north and 2 in south. Here I write review only about the south.
First the positives-
1. Very good location, 500mtrs from HH Dalai Lama temple, though ~150mtrs of this is a very steep walk.
2. Nice common area to relax and enjoy the valley view.
3. Very courteous and helpful staff. I can go back to this place due to the hospitality of the staff.
4. Food is freshly prepared and served, and is very good in taste (I can vouch for vegetarian atleast)
Now the negatives:
1. I stayed in luxury room, which was not at all luxurious. I have travelled a lot and stayed in many hotels, this is not what you call a luxury room. Just because a small balcony type area has been created in a deluxe room, they now call it a luxury room and charge extra. The view from the balcony is of like a backyard. I have attached pics of this area to justify my stance. Very overpriced, I would rather stay in other cheaper room or find another villa/hotel in the same area at similar price. There are other good hotels nearby.
2. Ventilation in the room was not good.
3. Room lacked basic amenities like toiletries, bathroom/door mats.
4. Wifi is charged. Common!! Wifi nowadays comes in basic amenities and is free even in restaurants.
Overall a good place, I can go back for its location and service, but ofcourse prices needs to come down.
The hotel is originally a guest house to a family that lives in a different city (Chandigarh) and is very well maintained. It's based around 500 m ahead of the Dalai Lama Temple. It's a beautiful & capacious villa with comfortable and modern furniture. Each room has a small pantry area and a outdoor seating space as well. The villa has a common sitting area like any house and the rooms are spacious enough. You have a great view of Dharamshala and the airport runway. If the weather is clear then you can also enjoy the sunset. You will be served with freshly cooked homemade food - don't miss their pancakes.
Very nicely situated on the top of a hill overlooking the valley it offers one of the nicest views we've seen from hotels during our Himalaya trip! The room was basic but comfortable. The bathroom as well as towel service is a little run down and could use a renovation! The accommodation has a living room with a homely feel where breakfast or dinner is served. All meals are freshly cooked and very good!
If arriving by car there is a parking space available. To walk to and from the accommodation to the nearby market and restaurants does require some steep walking which makes it a little inconvenient if arriving/departing on foot with luggage! The room prices are slightly high for what one receives especially considering that breakfast is not included! Card payments are accepted.
Hi ! I was planning to book Hotel fortune or chonor house but i came to know about this Villa , I opted to stay here as we were a group of 8 people for 4 nights.
Ok , to start with my review , I would like to start with the location , The location of this hotel is apt and the markets are nearby as mcleodganj is not too big but reaching this hotel for the first time is difficult as it has steep slopes which you might find difficult to climb back if you have a petrol car and you are not so professional on driving on hills.
The property is beautiful , the master bed room is superb but other two bedrooms are just average. This is ran by 2 helpers , which will do anything to make your trip successful only if you donot irritate them by not having breakfast / dinner on punctual time , this really pisses off as you are on a holiday.
The living area is very good , garden area is apt.
Whole road outside is busy with monks as there is a Tibetan temple nearby.
There is a possibility of one finding insects such as Black widow (Big spiders) , Flying insects , cockroaches etc.
But this is the best property if you are going in a group and need alone place.
Food quality is very good as they prepare fresh food for you.
Experience was good and we ended up staying for an extra night from planned period , everything is on chargeable basis and many general things were not available in kitchen.
You cannot access there kitchen , the furniture is very old so you have possibility of getting hurt.Be careful !! REST EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND I COULD EVEN PLAN ONE MORE TRIP KEEPING IN MIND THE LOCATION AND PROPERTY.
