Lovely old monastery converted into hotel in the heart of Penafiel with a car park - can't understand why it is chargeable. Very comfortable room & clean. BUT was soooo disappointed with the restaurant - very basic, the food wasn't anything special & all the restaurants in town did not open in the evening. The pool was closed - in late June???? The bar & terrace seemed to be the only place in Penafiel to enjoy a drink. This hotel is really missing out - could have the best restaurant in town if they addressed the menu.
I spent last weekend with my husband in this lovely place. Really good swimming pool and the rooms are super nice and clean. The hotel has a bar and a restaurant, it also have a nice place where you can spend the afternoon reading or just relaxing. It has a spa that you can use it.
We spent a couple of nights here because we wanted to visit the growing area of the Ribera del duero wines. The hotel is a converted convent and is situated just outside what could be described as the old town. The room was light and airy - the windows had wooden shutters which made it difficult to wake up in the mornings!
There is a private garden and pool. The outside bar in the courtyard is a great place to have an evening cocktail.
The restaurant is amazing and we had the Suckling Lamb, although when it said roasted it was more like braised, the sad thing was that there was nobody else eating except us.
Convento Las Claras - A great place to stay if you are touring this wonderful wine area. A super hotel with reasonable size bedrooms (It was a Convent) comfortable beds and well-equipped modern bathrooms. Spacious public areas and large diningrooms. A separate Bar. Also a Spa area and swimming pool. and secure parking - useful if you have wine in the boot!
This was our second stay - and we will be going back, excellent value for money.
Spa, Pool, Bar was closed in October and 30‘ Celsius. Unfriendly Reception and Air Condition in the rooms were out of order! Unfortunately not a 4 star hotel! staff was not helpful and had no idea why everything was closed.
