I had to stay away from work for 2 days and really wasnt looking forward to it. I booked the Stanholme through a work system and did not have high expectations. What a pleasant surprise!
Debbie and Ken, the owners were so welcoming and greeted our party. They showed us to the rooms and asked if there was anything else we needed.
My room was fabulous, although the rooms of my two colleagues would have been just as wonderful. The main bedroom was well decorated and in keeping with the house and country village feel. The dressing table had all things you would require, including branded face wipes in the draw and a pot of prosecco drops! The table with the kettle and tea making facilities had everything you could possibly want, including some lovely biscuits.
Wow, what can i say, the cleanliness of the room was exceptional. No water marks on the taps, everything had a place, fluffy white towels and toiletries for every use. The slipper bath was an amazing extra, which when filled with bubble bath was a great way to end the day. Dressing gown and slippers in the closet.
You had the use of a lounge area, with a wood burning fire, TV and very comfortable surroundings. Very homely.
Food was to a brilliant standard with more choice than you would ever get at a hotel. Local products cooked perfectly, local jams/honey etc. Great coffee
So all the above exceeded my expectations already, but the service is what really makes this place special. Debbie and Ken took care of us wonderfully! After doing a full day at work our party came back to the guest house to freshly baked cake, port or coffee, logs burning on the fire and a really warm welcome. We really didn't want to leave.
I will certainly be staying there again and would recommend in a heart beat. I really believe I have found a hidden gem.
