Jaycee P's City Tips

  • Trains are the cheapest and fastest transport, but avoid them during rush hours (6-9am and 4-8pm) on weekdays. Stored-value tickets are valid for three months.
  • Always have local currency (Philippine peso) in lower denominations (Php10, 20, 50) to avoid getting scammed by drivers and vendors who say they cannot provide change.
  • The Philippines is a tropical country so it's very humid. It's best to wear light-colored cotton clothing.
  • Tipping at least 10% of your total bill is customary, and you should tip a bit higher when the bill does not include a service charge.
  • Make reservations at popular restaurants. On Valentine's Day especially, reservations should be made several weeks ahead.
  • MasterCard, Visa, and American Express are the most commonly accepted credit cards, but some restaurants do not accept credit, so check in advance and always have cash with you.
  • Wear little jewelry or none at all; a simple watch should do.
