Anik_Rahman's City Tips

  • There is no fixed range of tipping in Bangkok. Typically a 50-100 Thai Baht will make most of them happy.
  • Don't miss out on the delicious offerings from the Street Food Vendors. If you were in Bangkok and did not taste them, you're missing a big deal out of your travel.
  • Although Tuk Tuk's are colorful enough, please remember that they'll make your wallet condition colorful as well. However those who are not used to Three Stroke transports could try it for once; just for the taste of it.
  • Get a day long BTS (Bangkok Sky Train) Card which will substantially reduce your point to point travelling costs within the City.

Located into the Old city Bangkok. This temple is locally known as Loha Prasat or The Iron Temple. The temple presents with such a vibe of peace and serenity. The historical events are engraved in the walls of the temple. People who love architecture will find this place as a hidden gem.

This Wat (Local word for Temples) is located just next to the Phleon Chit BTS Station. With Cambodian Style of architecture, this Wat portrays a sculpture of Snakes right in front of the temple. You may visit this place for 20-30 minutes if you're tired roaming into the great shopping malls around.

Hualamphong is the biggest and oldest Railway Station in Thailand. Alongside of being the oldest, this railway station not only connects to the other provinces of Thailand but also connects you to the neighbouring countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Burma, Laos and Cambodia. You can also make it your transport hub when you're up for visiting the old city of Bangkok. This Railways station has a brilliant place to stay for a very cheap price.

One of the finest temple in Bangkok that I have traveled. Wat Saket is commonly known as The Golden Mount Temple among the tourist. Wat Saket however is pronounced as Watsket as I was finding it very hard to expplain to the taxi driver on where I wanted to go. That is when I learned that it is more pronounced as Watsket. It has a nice environment in and around the place and you can have a good look at the old city including the Iron Gate and the Chinatown. You also get a nice view of the new town from here. At the top you'll see people leaving wish bands in forms of metalic petals to the Gods which is nice to observe.

Oh MBK! That's the first thing which comes to my mind when it comes to MBK Center. Being situated right next to the BTS Station, it is usually very crowded most of the times. This shopping mall will become heaven for your wives and girlfriends. This mall consists stores of small vendors to big and world renowned brands. If you're looking to settle your shopping in cheap cost, try not to elevate more than the 1st floor. As per my observation, prices go up as you ascend.

This great service will save you a hell lot of money and also time for you if you are going towards or coming from the Airport. The Airport link connects the city with the Airport and only takes about 35 minutes. The Airport rail link meets the BTS service at the Phaya Thai interchange. Alternatively, you can connect to the MRT line from Makkasan.

I personally had no idea about this place. Thanks to my fellow traveler who almost dragged me to be with him. I entered the complex not knowing what exactly to expect. However if you are an animal lover and love to see reptiles in their natural habitat, you will spend a good hour or two up here. They perform a snake show every two hour which last for about 40-60 minutes. Apart from the show (if it troubles your heart too much) you can go and visit the snakes in the boxes in the display center. This center actually is a venom preserving center and various medicines are developed and researched here. It is often mistaken for a snake farm which it is really not. You can see the King Cobra, Rattle Snakes, Burmese Python and the famous Thai Red Neck Snake. If you're brave enough, do not forget to take a picture with the lovely yellow Burmese Python.

Jim Thompson House is a place of history, love and uncertainty. As described by our guide, he was one of the pioneers of silk engineering in Asia. He came to Thailand and stayed here for the love of silk till he lived before he was missing all of a sudden. His house has now turned to Jim Thompson House. The museum not only portrays the Silk Production system but also focuses in ancient scripts and sculptures made in the early days of Thailand. This is a lovely place for those who are interested in History. The guided tour costs 100 THB for adults and THB 50 for students.

Grand Palace or also referred to as the Royal Palace is one of the epicenter of Bangkok's tourist attractions. The greatness of this place is beyond words and is only understood by one's who have visited it. It is a must see in Bangkok for those who are into Art and Culture. The Royal palace used to be the home of the Kings of Thailand and is still preserved very well. There is a miniature of the famous Angkor Wat Temple from Siem Riep, Cambodia within the complex. I must admit the miniature is brilliant is and proportionate in every way towards the actual one.

Khao San Road is commonly known as the Backpacker's Road in Bangkok. Because of the cheap accommodation offering and a great buzz of nightlife, this road is enormously popular among tourists who visit Bangkok. It is very close from the Royal Palace and is in the epicenter of the old town. The food vendors sell brilliant food at a very affordable price. If you're in Bangkok for once you should be here for once too.
