The Bay of Banderas is one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
Puerto Vallarta has turned El Malecon Boardwalk into a pedestrian walk. You don't have to deal with traffic and there are some very good restaurants and galleries along this route. The bronze sculptures along the boardwalk that look out to the ocean are wonderful.
This cathedral is beautiful. The turret on the top of the spire is held up by angels. You can spot the cathedral from land and sea. It is both beautiful inside and out.
I have never really cared for ceviche, but this restaurant uses fresh fish and their spices are wonderful. I would eat here regularly!
We have done this tour every time we have come to Puerto Vallarta. It starts with a 45 minute boat trip south of Puerto Vallarta, offering free alcoholic drinks and snacks. When you get to the destination, you will be greeted by musicians in ancient Mayan costumes and be escorted to a table for an all you can eat delicious buffet. After dinner and dessert, you will enjoy a wonderful ancient Mayan musical presentation. Afterwards, you will make the boat trip back to Puerto Vallarta enjoying more alcoholic drinks and music.
We have done this tour twice and would do it again. You start downtown with a very knowledgeable and personable tour guide. He takes you through the streets of Puerto Vallarta explaining the history. You stop at many, I think 12, different restaurants and food carts, sampling different Mexican foods and drinks. He shows you what to look for when buying from food carts and gives you advice on where to eat and what to see.
This is the most wonderful zoo that I have ever visited. You are allowed to cheaply buy a bag of food or two and feed the animals along the way. Feeding the giraffe is a highlight, but feeding all the animals is a great experience. You can also pay an extra fee in order to handle some exotic baby animals at the end of the zoo. I was able to hold a 1 month old lion cub and it was one of my most favorite memories of all time.
These botanical gardens are beautiful. They also offer guided tours. Their gift shop is also very nice.
This restaurant is located in a former home, very close to the cathedral. The food is authentic and delicious. They have the best tortilla soup I have ever tasted.
This tour is one of our favorites. You see Mexico in a very personal way. We have had 2 guides and both have been great. You visit an authentic Mexican village; an ancient area with petroglyphs; a dairy, where they make fresh cheese; a Mexican cemetery, where you learn about the Mexican culture. You are then treated to a delicious buffet lunch.
The food for lunch and dinner is wonderful. The atmosphere isn't great, but the food makes up for it.
This restaurant is located about 5 miles south of town. The view of the bay, the sunset, and if you are lucky, a thunderstorm is wonderful. All of the food we have had has been excellent. Prices are very reasonable.
