A lot. Good hike. Can be very hot and very crowded. Plan accordingly. We climbed in the morning to avoid crowds and heat...but missed sunset views.
The lonely planet says 1729...I think there is a moving stairway up one side, but we couldn't find it. There are also lots of stopping off points and places to eat and drink on the way up so you can take your time. I hope my response was helpful and not too late. I've only just seen that you had posted this question. Enjoy your trip!
If you are walking from the bottom of the hill (barefoot) it takes about 45 minutes to the top.
get taxi to the lift. Best option
2 many steps, I took the escalators up and elevator down!
Too many when it's hot! We got a taxi to the top then took the escalator. For a little bit extra, the driver waited for us and took us back down. This was worth it as we went for sunset so it was dark by the time we left.
Escalators! Get the lift down.
There are so many, that we decided to take a taxi and then the lift. Much easier
Lots, but it is not all at once. Plenty of places to stop and rest or enjoy the views. They are easy steps, just take your time. BTW no shoes or socks, bare feet only. There are lockers at the bottom.
There is a road about half way that a taxi can take you to if you feel that the whole lot is beyond your abilities. Having said that it is not a difficult climb.
My travel book said 279 steps that you can climb in 30 minutes. For time issues we took the lift too.
