yes you always have a choice as to whether you want to attempt a jump. If it is too high just tell the guide and they will lead you down a different path. I did all the jumps but others in our group chose to not do any of them so it is entirely up to you. Be a little wary of the last jump, it is a lot higher than I thought it was.

It’s quite a long course and there are jumps of all sizes and ways to walk past any too high

Yes there are options. Your guide will inform you on how deep/high certain jumps are. Whatever happens the route enables you to just keep moving forward, and you can’t go 200 yards back to a jump you refused.

How young is your son? Hope he is old enough as i cant see this will be good for 10yo and below. Though they provide life jacket and helmet, some jumps are not adviseable. Anyways, i guess you can assess that yourself if he will be able to do it.

The trail down the first stop is not that distant but when we went there, it was muddy and drizzling. The mud is really sticky and i actually lost one of my shoes'sole. But it was fun and will definitely an experience worth your time. Enjoy!

You can pass up the long drops and yes many in your size range
