- Monika SSydney, Australia276 contributionsWanted to see the chateau and it’s a mixed offering. Went to the cafe, which is like a ‘nanna’ cafe in a huge space shared with a homewares and trinket outlet. Saying that, it was cheap, quick, great service, and perfectly acceptable for a simple light meal. Gorgeous china is used and the setting tries to make it like an intimate tea shop.
I had a toastie with chips and salad, all tasty and fresh though the toastie was quite small. Hubby had the fish and chips and salad which was out of a packet but again very tasty, good quality and fine for the price s setting. Older and group crowd but nice setting. Fine for a no nonsense traditional cafe style lunch.
You can see the chateau needs work, times look tough but it was pleasant enough. Weddings look like a big thing here.Written March 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Charlie is wonderful; an engaging chap who is very passionate about his wines. A great location out the back of Lyndon and always a very nice drop or two to taste.Written March 31, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Altona Scrub has been rescued and rehabilitated by a local land-care group. It is inspiring as well as enjoyable.
We took the yellow trail - less than an hour of brisk walking from the small car park entrance on Altona Road. Easy walking.Written April 21, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I have cycled all but the Gawler to Lyndoch section in both directions.
The shared use Barossa Trail extends from Gawler to Angaston and provides a different perspective of the Barossa. Overall, it is easy to moderate cycling with some challenging sections between Tanunda and Lyndoch.
One highlight is the rail trail section between Nuriootpa and Angaston. A long gentle, smooth incline as you head towards Angaston. The section around Rowland Flat is scenic, but challenging with some big undulations. Worth exploring though as the track heads away from the Highway and winds amongst the trees to Jacob's creek.
Nuriootpa to Tanunda is safe offroad and flat, and follows the busy Highway. The track surface is satisfactory, but sometimes lumpy.
Best advice is to pick up a brochure or check the web for a map as some planning is involved.
Definitely a good way to see the Barossa if you enjoy cycling. We called into a few wineries and were made welcome.

Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - LadyBirdAdelaide, Australia1 contributionIt was nice to sit here at a table in the sun, looking up the small hill covered in sculpted lavender bushes and at the surrounding gum trees. The shop has everything imaginable that you could make smell or taste of lavender, and for prices that are probably not high for a gift shop. The man attending, however, was gruff, unfriendly, and rude (although the young woman was nice enough). When I asked him where the toilets were, as I walked towards them, I heard him saying 'to himself', "You're welcome". That was totally unnecessary. After ordering scones for $9.50 that were supposed to taste of cheese and herbs, I was very surprised to get two tiny scones that were perhaps 4 cm in diameter, with no cheese whatsoever and so little herb that I could hardly see or taste it. These were served with a very small amount of butter. What a rip off! The lavender ice cream was nice, but not exactly cheap. I could have bought a few things in the shop to get some of my Christmas shopping done, but the man's behaviour really put me off, so I didn't. What really made the time spent there were two female-male pairs of little fairy wrens flitting about close to the tables, hoping for a little bit of food to fall their way. I watched them for quite some time and it made the trip there feel worthwhile. Take a look here if you are passing, but otherwise I would give it a miss.Written November 3, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - levymalGreater Adelaide, Australia361 contributionsMy wife and I were passengers on a Bus which recently made a visit to the "1837 Barossa Manor " property at Lyndoch, South Australia to see the Barossa Colonel Light Monument. The trip was arranged via the Lyndoch Historical Society. Anyone interested should contact Anne Hausler (Secretary) Phone: (08) 8524 5002. We were warmly welcomed by the owners of the property. The Barossa Colonel Light Monument commemorates the birthplace of today's world-famous Barossa Valley and Lyndoch as they were discovered and named on this ground by Colonel William Lighton 13 December 1837. I might add that they generously offered us food and drink on what was a rather warm summer day!Written January 29, 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
