What travelers are saying
- Christian MCopenhagen, Denmark4,068 contributionsWe walked (slowly, very slowly) up to Sacsayhuaman as training for a trip at 5000 meters altitude tomorrow but didn't want to pay the 70 soles per person entrance fee. In a few days, we'll experience Machu Picchu itself, and there we'll surely satisfy our desire to see ancient Inca ruins.
Instead, we walked over to the Cristo Blanco statue, 10 minutes from the entrance of Sacsayhuaman, where no entrance fee is required.
On the way back from Cristo Blanco, we discovered that it was possible to get a good view of a part of Sacsayhuaman and take some quite good photos. Maybe worth considering?Written February 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kevin ACuyahoga Falls, OH18 contributionsHiked the trail in 2019 and like all tours there went with a tour group, G Adventures. 4 days, 3 nights. Start at just under 10,000 feet to Dead Woman's pass at 13769 feet. Was unsure whether, at 64, I could sleep well in a tent. No problem, exhausted in a good way each night. Beautiful scenery. Take your time, pace yourself, enjoy!Written March 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Christian MCopenhagen, Denmark4,068 contributionsThe grand square is not only beautiful; it's also the heartbeat of the city, where locals and tourists come together to observe each other in the most stunning surroundings.
This is where you can find deals on the countless activities originating from Cusco, including the overwhelmingly popular trip to one of the 7 wonders of the world, Machu Picchu.
You'll be offered a massage at least 10 times and forced to say no to all sorts of touristy stuff, and normally, all this commotion might annoy you - but here in Cusco's central square, you'll just shrug and smile instead. It's part of the charm here.
If you can only visit one attraction in Cusco, make it Plaza de Armas.Written February 1, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We went to see the painting of the last supper with the roast quinea pig. The admission is 40 soles which was $10 US when we were there. It was probably worth that.Written March 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- sttlyFort Lauderdale, FL132 contributionsThis was a very interesting site. The Spanish buildings were built on a native buildings which are now exposed and there is information about how they were built. Of all the sites we saw this was the only one that explained/showed this. Admission is 15 soles, less than $4 when we were there and is well worth that.Written March 16, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Logan1939Toronto, Canada21 contributionsGreat neighbourhood with lots of beautiful shops displaying artwork. Less busy than the central square. Be sure to walk to the viewpoint for a view of Cusco and the mountains that surround.Written November 16, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Graham Barry WilmotIrlande, Canada1 contributionThis tour was very special, TERRA QUECHUA PERU had everything organised and they contacted us and explained everything about the trip.
This tour to the Humantay Lake is a real challenge to see one of the most spectacular places in the world. It was a real sacrifice hahaha. But it was all very bearable thanks to our guide. He was very patient, attentive and knowledgeable.
He was very punctual, waited for everyone, helped us with his miracle water from Florida and helped us to live a great experience. HIRE TERRA QUECHUA PERU as your tour guide and you will not be disappointed.Written February 2, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We had a tour of different types of chocolates and jam and they made it so interactive and interesting. Free chocolate is a plus but you have to stop by and pick some things up!Written December 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KathyOttawa, Canada215 contributionsSpend a few hours at this market and you will have an incredible Peruvian experience. I am a big fruit lover, and a lot of the fruits sold in this market cannot be found in local stores. I brought a lot of cash with me and went crazy buying everything that I wanted to try in Peru, and I did not regret it. The prices are not necessarily cheap, I find them expensive, but it’s a once in a lifetime experience. I also sat down and had a nice fruit smoothie at one of the stalls, which was absolutely delicious however, the beverage was not cold. They sell a variety of things from groceries to meat to fish the fruits, vegetables, and dried goods. I found the dried goods looking very interesting and next time I think I will focus more on buying that. I also saw a lot of lovely, souvenirs and authentic Peruvian products , and again next time I will come back with a large suitcase to bring back gifts to friends and family. I sat in one of the stalls and had a delicious meal, and authentic Peruvian meal of rice, vegetables, and a side soup. I had a beverage with that too and the whole thing only cost me seven dollars. Outside the market there are public bathrooms for 2 Soles, although very crowded and not clean, it worked. Outside the market, and then all the little streets surrounding the area. There’s tons of vendors, and the whole area has such an authentic field to it. I sat down outside of a bench and ate some of my fruits while watching people go by. What a beautiful experience in Cusco. I can’t wait to come back...Written February 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Laura M4 contributionsThis is a great, comprehensive museum of Andean cultures. It is housed in a building that the Incas to re-educate the children of conquered nations. Then the Spanish used it to re-educate orphaned Inca children in a convent school. You learn about each of the 3,000 years of cultures, the artistry, and symbols in the Andes. There are audio and written guides in multiple languages. Our 9 and 10 year old kids loved it, too.
I should also mention it's not part of the tourist pass-set of museums. So, unlike the Regional Historical Museum of Cusco, you can visit this without having to buy an expensive pass. You can, of course, spring for the museum and restaurant tickets.Written December 26, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
