What travelers are saying
- LolaGo1Washington DC, DC6,452 contributionsI hired an English speaking tuktuk driver to tour Colombo’s tourist attractions. This was the first one that we visited. Staff here were friiendly and kind. Entrance fee is for 400 LHR, paid at the counter near the Entrance.
This attraction also has a museum with its own exhibits. What impressed me here are the many statues of Buddha whereever you look. Highly recommended to visit this attraction!Written March 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. People were walking, exercising and sunbathing as well. Our hotel, Berjaya was right beside the beach and we had an over-bridge to reach the beach from our hotel (there was a train track under the bridge). There were a few restaurants that were literally on the beach itself.
It's a fairly long beach. There were some watersports activities happening. I remember jet skiing. Although, we didn't do any.Written January 31, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was quite hot, like 90 degrees when we visited, so just a brief visit here. Will try visit again late in the pm to enjoy its views and ambience.Written March 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - oldiesontherunNorfolk212 contributionsA trip to this museum was part of a complimentary tour from our hotel. There was lots to see there but there were lots of staircases.Written January 30, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LolaGo1Washington DC, DC6,452 contributionsThe staff here are quite restrict about enforcing the dress code and no shoe policy here. From the parking lot, we were approached by 3 different men telling us to remove our shoes. At this time it was about 12:30 p.m. and ground was quite hot.
I quickly took pictures of the exteriors of the temples and its gate, fancy/artistic carvings there. We thanked the staff and decided to visit it again in the early morning to ensure that our bare feet don’t get burned.Written March 9, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. But I felt that all are formal rather than live and buzzing happy go lucky atmosphere is missing.Written March 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MaximilianHong Kong, China291 contributionsThe Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque is a stunning architectural marvel, offering an awe-inspiring glimpse into spiritual and cultural richness. The intricate design and vibrant colors of the mosque make it a must-visit. However, the experience was slightly marred by unclear information regarding opening hours, causing some confusion during the visit. A clearer schedule would enhance the visitor experience significantly.Written December 19, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LolaGo1Washington DC, DC6,452 contributionsLocated near the Lotus Tower, we visited this Hindu Temple next. Like any Hidu temples, we were asked to take off our shoes as soon as we entered the compound. I thought we would only take off our shoes when we enter inside the temples.
We hurriedly took some pictures here and left. The ground is rough and hot for us to take off our shoes outside of the temples.Written March 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is a statue here infront of an old structure with beautiful mouldings. Some locals were noted chilling out here. Another big white building is in the vicinity, perhaps the Assembly Hall. Took several photos here and enjoyed our visit.
Accross from the above structures is a wide open field where locals are practising their games.Written March 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LolaGo1Washington DC, DC6,452 contributionsI addition to visting temples and mosques, we also visited some Catholic Churches in Colombo. This was one of them. There were two policemen who checked our bags before entering the church. I guessed this was a precautionary measure against any future bomb attack of this church.
There are some scalfoldings inside the church to what appeared to be repairing stained glass windows. Briefly said our prayers here before leaving.Written March 7, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Heads up this is not a touristy market like in southern Thailand, but an actual functioning market that people just go to in order to buy bulk necessities and materials for their businesses.
It is crowded and smells of exhaust, and will not be for everyone, but if you want to see a real market this compares with some of the better ones, including even the famous bazaars at Kashgar or Istanbul.Written February 20, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
