Lovely street in a gorgeous city. This wide boulevard is perfect for a market. We went on a Thursday and caught the morning 'big market ' and later the artisan evening market. I would advise wandering into the old town for lunch- we went to the wonderful La Pizza( see review) and then to the art gallery for some extra culture. Don't miss Aix and Mirabeau.

Wandering around the old street of any French town is a treat in itself, but doing so in Aix is especially wonderful. Around each turn there's another architectural wonder, another market place or another charming square with a place to eat/relax. While a city, the old city of Aix is nearly impossible to get lost in...you'll eventually emerge into the "new" area and know that you've reach the limits of the old city.

Take your time, enjoy the everyday scenes that happen around you. The history is amazing, but the common place events are fascinating too!

Worth visiting despite no ongoing exhibition. The audio-guided tour is well designed (available in French and English), and the short film about Paul Cézanne was great and a highlight of the visit (the film is in French with English subtitles).

Our hotel organised a private tour of the winery with a tasting afterwards. Words can’t really describe what a wonderful experience we had. It was a truly a special day from the weather and the setting just a start.
A very special thank you must go to our host, Patricia, no not from Ireland, but Romania. Her knowledge, enthusiasm, passion for wine and overall professionalism was something to behold. A note to management, look after this lady, she is very special.
We went way over our expected time, but the 8 of us just loved listening to Patricia.
After the tour we went straight back into the shop and ordered plenty of wine which is currently winging its way to Ireland, we can’t wait.
We then went to the Provençal restaurant and had a very pleasant lunch.
The winery is very special and huge credit must go to the owner and the team. You have created something special and are continuing to invest in the property.
    I have to return.

As a couple of the previous reviews have pointed out, the Cathedrale St. Sauveur isn't much to look at from the outside, but the inside is a completely different story.

Interestingly, we entered from a side door at the right, not the main church entrance (maybe that's only used for holy occasions). But immediately your in the baptismal area, complete with an emersion fount from the 6th century!! There's a modern one there too, showing pictures of recent cerimonies.

The interior architecture of the church is simple, high gothic with vaulted ceilings. But the details of the carvings are incredible and the real highlight is the amazing artwork placed throughout the nave. Make sure to visit the sacred tomb on the right hand side.

Definitely a great place to stop, visit, relax and reflect.

Spent an hour here on our Cezanne day. After visiting his studio and the places in town connected with him, it was great to come and see a few of his paintings.

The museum is small but there is a terrific collection of antiquities, medieval and classical works.

The museum is in the old town and in a lovely area.

This is a memorial to the Jews of the area who were interned then deported to the death camps by the Vichy government at the demand of the Nazis.

We are big fans of Vasarely and had seen a fantastic exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in the spring, so we were very excited to visit this museum again. Sadly, many of the works are being refurbished, so some display areas were closed. However, Vasarely's work is just amazing and the paintings displayed are just brilliant. I hope more visitors to Aix-en-Provence make an effort to see this incredible art space dedicated to an awesome artist.

It is a good visit to learn how they make the calissons. We were on our own and it was fine, glad we didn’t pay for a guided visit.
The virtual calisson making is a fun machine and you get a mini-calisson as a reward.
The shop is nice, but prices are higher than your regular supermarket. You though get some varieties and flavours that I have not seen in the stores.

This was a third time in Aix. The first time we came we stumbled upon the markets and absolutely love them all. The second time that we came, we were on a cruise and the day in port didn't align with the markets, so missed them entirely. Vowing not to let that happen again, we intentionally scheduled our stay in Aix to align with the markets...and once again we were not disappointed.

Aix's markets are every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and actually there are multiple markets throughout the city....clothing in one area, handicrafts in another, produce is a couple more. All are fantastic and all offer great buys and opportunities for learning. The produce available is unbelievable and if you want herbs, this is the place to get them. We purchased a huge kilo bag of herb du provence, which we divided up at home and gave out as gifts.

Definitely the markets should be a "must see" if your in Aix and, if possible, definitely schedule your visit to align with market days.

While in Aix for two days, we had a Cezanne day. We started off here and then walked through the town stopping at the house where he was born, his art school, where he was baptised and married and ending with his grave.

This is his studio, as he left it. It is quite moving to stand there where he stood, with the huge window and the props for his painting. How wonderful that it is still there.

There is a video showing in the garden shed and you can walk through the garden.

    Lovely.

We had just one day in Aix. As seniors, we really appreciated the recommendation we got at the tourist office for lunch at Hotel Caumont Centre d’Art, which has an outdoor garden setting as well as indoor. Reasonable prices (20 euro main). We watched the film on Cezanne (French with English subtitles), runs 30 min, and toured the rooms upstairs. This was the highlight of our day. We would never have gone there without the tourist office suggestion and are most appreciative. We were the only ones in the theatre. Surprised at the lack of people touring. Wonderful gift shop too. We also did the mini-tour train at 10:15, and it wasn’t full, so room for just the two of us in a cabin. Got our tickets at the tourist office. With a bit of walking that was enough for us for the day!
