It is a small shop just a few miles before Munnar. It has a range of teas and some spices too. Staff was courteous and helpful

    Disclaimer:
Firstly, for all the people complaining about how the place looks ....LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS!!!

Don't worry, I'll be the first person of all the reviewers to actually post pictures of the massage room so you can make a decision before you go. You're welcome.

By the way, in case you didn't notice, YOU'RE IN INDIA!!! Don't expect an American or European Spa experience. You're in the mountains in India. There will be no fancy steam room, and no beautiful showers and tiled rooms with flower petals and no soft pretty lighting. If you expect this, you're being foolish.

Expect a room with a basic table, and some oils and a hot plate to warm the oils... and a trained masseuse. You want to come to India, accept the authentic experience. Do you think when they did ayurvedic massages 3000 years ago, they had nice lil spas? No! They probably laid on the group and got the massage. This is the authentic India experience. So don't complain.

Btw, males are given a male masseuse and females are given a female masseuse.

    Review:
We booked our massages the day before, and they required a deposit in any amount, so we threw them 50 rupees. By the way, it is also possible to pay by credit card. I paid by cr. card and had no issue.

We were taken in a lil jeep down a hill to a place set up with a couple rooms for a massage. Attached are pics.

The place had a basic table, and a washroom with a shower and a steam box, and a hot plate to heat the oil.

I first undressed completely. No skimpy thong was given. What is it needed for anyways? It covers nothing. I was asked to sit on a stool and she gave me a head massage and shoulder massage. I then laid on the table.

I also asked them to put on some music as I saw they had speakers. They obliged and put on some new age spa music.

I got a massage in which a cloth was wrapped around a copper pot and dipped in warmish-hot ayurvedic oils. I received a light pounding and deep tissue massage with this apparatus. I really liked it. I also felt like I got a good body scrub from all the dirt that built up on my body during my trip, despite regular and thorough showers. This type of massage cost me about $40.00 which by Western standards is very cheap for such a massage.

I asked for a pillow or towel for my head. They gave me a dirty looking towel which I think they clean the table with. I was not happy with that, but whatever. They offered to rub my face with oils too, but I opted for a facial massage with rose water.

After, she immediately started wiping down the table and cleaning the area. FYI she used some kind of sanitizing spray to clean down the table. She also threw away the cloth she used to clean the place, which was good to see.

The setting is basic but the masseuse was skilled and friendly :D

I would recommend this place for a massage. Take your own towel to lay down on, on the table, and maybe an extra towel to lay your head on. Other than this, you will be happy with your treatment.

    I recommend this place.

    Enjoy!

My experience at the Amberdale Spa, Munnar was truly incredible. Doc. Amy is very attentive, professional and knowledge. She brought the treatment brochure up to our room prior to our spar experience and explained every treatment to us in detail.

Upon arrival at the spa I was introduced to my masseuse Nidhin, who explained the process of my selected massage (Marma - deeper tissue massage w/ warn oil focusing on pressure points) before showing me to the treatment room.

The quality of the massage was amazing and felt twice as long as the 25minute duration advertised. I was then led to the steam room to relax for another 10 minutes before showering off. I would highly recommend anyone staying at the Amberdale resort to ensure they arrange a spa day so they can receive the exceptional service and ultimate relaxation that we did!
