Very interesting place to discover the history of Spain (starting 6e century BC). You can discover ancient building techniques, what they were eating, their old alphabet,… and finally the kids can dress up as an old warrior. Fun!

    Great family fun.
Lovely location with beautiful views. Very cheap at just €3 per slide but reductions and offers available.
Nice friendly staff. No issues with queue , it moved fast.
Location is awkward to get to if not driving. We planned to get a taxi from Calafell train station but were unable to find one so we walked 24mins approx, using google maps. Some of the walk is along a lovely olive grove. Kids aged 9&6 with us and they were able for the walk.
The slide is great fun. Our kids say it was one of the highlights of their holiday!

Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. It's a nice walk up to the castle from the town, about half an hour at a slow pace but you get to see some lovely typically Spanish houses and streets on the way up. (Yes, there's a bit of a hill but not really steep, it's a gradul incline all the way from town with just a bit steeper on the approach to the castle.) I believe there is a frequent bus.
I was pleseantly surprised by the cheap entry charge, much less than I was expecting and you definitely get your money's worth.
Friendly staff show you to a small room where you watch a short video presentation about the history of the castle, which really sets the scene for when you walk around. (We wondered why the lady asked us what Nationality we were but then realised it was so they can show the video in your own language.)
The best thing about the castle is being able to walk all over it. Most landmarks I have been to have a designated walkway and you must not pass the barriers, although there is a walkway here, you are also welcome to wander all around which is much more interesting than looking at everything from afar. Just be careful with small children or people less able, as you are basically walking on ruins which have loose stones and very uneven footing, and steep worn stairs.
Also fun to try on the medieval armour which is left for you! A great selfie opportunity!
Just be aware of the afternoon closing for siesta. We didn't take this into consideration (being from the UK where everything is open all day) and although we had just about finished our visit, we were cut slightly short when the lady came out to tell us she was now closing. We could have spend another 10/15 minutes there but were ushered out. Our fault for not checking opening hours an I'm just glad we had enough time to see it all.

Popped in on our last day before we flew home. The guide was very informative with his pigeon English explaining about the writer who visited this place in the days of old when Calafell was just a fishing village and the beach was full of fishing boats only. The fishermen all returned to their homes in the old quarter of calafell 9the other side of the railway station) . There is a writer who has open nights here. It was free of charge, but alas it was all in Spanish. It had a nice patio and a great view of the beach/sea. The building itself has been looked after and is the oldest building left in Calafell or so I was told. It is worth a quick visit, but take your Spanish speaking guide.

Visited with three boys ages 9-12. They had fun trying different activities. Good to visit for a couple of hours during an evening.

The market is very small. It is saved by the fact that the vendors are high quality. The prices are only average - you will not find bargains here. But the food they are selling is excellent.

The Mercadona is nothing special, but it is a full sized supermarket so you will find most anything you would expect.
