There are more than one story about this waterfalls but one legend says that this waterfalls appeared after the identical twins, Maria and Cristina were bathing in the Agus River. Maria, the younger twin, was carried by the current. Cristina tried to save her sister, but the current was so strong that both of them drowned. People were amazed when a beautiful twin waterfalls came about from were the sisters perished. And everyone called it Maria Cristina.

This legendary waterfalls is the outlet of Lake Lanao through Agus River. It is sometimes called the "twin falls" as the flow is separated by a rock at the brink of the waterfall. The 320 - feet (98 meters) high waterfalls is also the primary source of electric power for the city's industries, being harnessed by the National Power Corporation - Agus Hydroelectric Power Plants.

Firstly, let me just correct another reviewer who stated you can only get here by taxi or rented van. NOT TRUE. My internet research prior to traveling here informed me that I could take a jeepney from downtown Iligan and be dropped off where I could take a habal habal or trike to the falls. Which is what I did to first visit Tinago Falls. As these falls are nearby I then negotiated a price with a trike driver at Tinago to take me to these falls and then return me to the main road where I then took a jeepney back to the crossroad for Maria Cristina Falls. The trike driver came with me and took some photos for me.
Entry was 50 pesos and only a few steps to descend. Nice area for family picnic. Great for photo taking. Certainly worth a visit.

We went to see their new pools as we have been frequenting the falls and the swimming pools near it in the past. From the main entrance, you have to go a bit further down the road to see 2 new pools ( kids and adults) underneath the trees. A big net to catch the falling leaves overhangs above the pools to maintain its cleanliness. cottages for rent also surrounds these pools where you can eat and have a place to lounge while enjoying nature at its best.

The wave pool is a nice addition to this old resort. Come here during weekdays. The scheduled waves are turned on at least twice during the day, but it’s really fun! The new bathroom and shower rooms are clean and new. The cottages are not clean and we hated the cats that roam around. We have to hang our foods. There are so many flies and no one seems to be cleaning the area. All in all, it’s a nice place for family.

The view is really but i don't recommend for swimming. The place is quite distance from the accessible road. You need to trek and cross rivers for about 10-15 minutes.

During this time of pandemic, going out of home should only be when necessary. I had to pay my bills at Smart third floor located at the Robinsons Mall. While waiting for it to open I had coffee and oatmeal cookie at Bo's, I was so delighted of this experience because Bo's coffee had impressed me when I waiting for my return flight at Cebu International airport. Here in Iligan, I think there is another Bo's in Pala-o.
I consider my Bo's experience just last Tuesday as special, indeed!
Am so grateful that Robinson's Place houses this favorite coffee shop of mine.

The trek to this waterfalls wasn't easy because there were steep and slippery parts of the trail. This is not recommended for kids and elderly.

The falls doesn't have so much flowing water when I visited so the falls doesn't look really good.

The locals built a small dam to trap water in the small catch basin for locals to swim in. I particularly do not like artificial add-ons to scening spots like this.

The guides are all kids and they don't have standardized fee system yet.

I will visit this again when there is plenty of water.

Visit hindang falls. located somewhere in kiwalan. from the city, drop off in kiwalan (talipapa) you will then ride a motorcycle (habal-habal) or a Bajah for about 20-30 mins. upon reaching there, you will then walk for about 20mins to finally reach the falls. be very careful of the trails, coz they are very steepy. hindang falls is a hidden, quite and beautiful falls. a must visit!

It's a half day trek. Better you start hiking early morning. Tiring, but you'll have fun spelunking the caves! There's even a great view up top near the corn fields! 🙂

You can visit thenomadbites.com, I made a complete guide for the Hindang Expedition!

I felt energized from the walk to and fro the foot of the waterfalls. The Manobos are taking good care of these ancestral treasure. It's grand, it's beautiful, it's grandiose!

The highest elevation within the city proper, you will find the Iligan City Hall, the City Municipal Building and many more local government offices here. The beautiful and popular Anahaw Amphetheater, one of the largest of its kind in the region is here also. Many festivities take place at the Anahaw Amphetheater including the Monday Morning Flag Raising Ceremony beginning at 8AM. As a visitor I found this weekly ceremony most interesting and entertaining to watch.

There is a moderate sized park across from City Hall that overlooks Iligan City and be a great photo opportunity. There is an outdoor food vendor for snack and other types of food and beverages.

The somewhat winding and recently re-concreted access road ascending up the hill from it's junction at Quezon Avenue provides for some beautiful scenic views. You may get there easily by car, taxi and jeepney. At the top of the hill go left for City Hall and the Municipal building, and to the right for the Department of Tourism.

Well worth the visit, and for tourist brochures and other information for tourists and visitors the Iligan City Department is at your service. Turn right at the top of the hill and the stand alone building for the Dept. of Tourism is a short distance down the road on the left.

the current here is strong, and the shoreline has been dug deep by the waves. Not for night swimming as it is pretty much dangerous.
