After passing a few of the local attractive bridges, our guide stopped here so we could get a better selection of angles.

This is a beautiful park with an amazing large lake, the scenery everywhere is stunning , there is a walking trail around the lake and many seating areas, you could ride small boats in the lake if the weather allows, the lake has many small fish, toilets and a cafeteria are available, you could enjoy looking at many plantations, make sure you visit in a sunny day. Our Turkish guide told us that this is the most beautiful lake in Turkey.

After 2.5 month continuous of lockdown weekend in Turkey due to covid19, I found Karagöl was exactly the best place to escape, back to the nature, and out trip was just perfectly and timely done before the tourists start to come. We found only few families around so it was very quiet and peaceful lake. Very green and the smell of nature was wonderful.

You can see this statue from all over the city and it does show Turkish national pride! We did not make it to the statue... not sure how to get there actually.

Going from Kars to Yusufeli, we traveled the last stretch before arriving at this church observing the impressive hydraulic works affecting the Çoruh river basin (works including 15 dams on the river and its tributaries). So now it's difficult to imagine what this part of the so-called “Georgian Valleys” (also called Tao-Klarjeti) was like before the recent works.
We could only admire this church from the outside; which is already no little thing, because the forms of this church, dating back over 1000 years ago, are also valuable from the outside, both in terms of architecture and decorations. The recent restorations have certainly been heavy, but the old photos of the church still allow us to verify that they didn't radically upset the previous physiognomy of the church.
We learned that a thousand years ago this church (the only one we were able to visit) was the most important cathedral in the Tao-Klarjeti region; which in turn was the heart of Christian Georgia (as the current capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, and its region, were ruled by an Arab emir).
It must then be assumed that the communication routes in the region at that time developed along the ridges of these rugged mountains or in any case high up in the valleys; because the track (I dare not call it a road) currently used to go up to the church (and to the village of the same name) from the D60 road on the valley bottom is the most daring and frightening route I have experienced, being narrow, steep, with hairpin bends on sheer slopes; so upon arrival you feel relieved, if it weren't for the fact that you have to retrace the itinerary on the way back...

The road is so long and some parts are broken. Also, some signboards are missing and it could be confusing. We lost 3 times. The road takes 1,5 hours from Macahel Green Roof Hotel on foot. If you want to go there be sure you got an appropriate vehicle. There is no winter maintenance so it is only available in summer. At the end view was amazing. There was only one thing in my mind "totally worth it"

Meadows, mountains, forests, animals, colorful fruit trees altogether like a fairy tale. 2.5 hours by car from Machael area, but we were told that during months June, July and August there is a shorter route through the meadows, which was blocked by snow in April.

Crowded and busy. Pointless security to enter-everyone beeped. Endless shopper shuffle. Much of the stuff available in the shops outside. Still a classic experience in these cities in the ols dpicev route.

A historic church that has been in ruins for over 50 years, it's worth a short visit for photos and doing a bit of research for local history and culture.
