Very pretty part-like setting for the small historic museum. We had a delightful lunch at the charming farm house.

Very moving experience; magnificent and appropriate memorial which gives concrete definition of "circle the wagons."

Firstly the history perspective of the Zulus is important to balance against the Afrikaner/White South African perspective. it is a great pity that the ability to record all the happenings is only oral and is set against the written perspective of the Voortrekkers.

i enjoyed the contrasting but still middle path linkage of the history, I really appreciate that both sides are trying to get their history across yet have built a bridge of reconciliation to join the histories.

what also surprised me was the accommodation available at the Museum site yet this is not advertised, the rooms were spotless and the accommodation was very low cost but superbly looked after, pity it it not more prominently advertised.

Just back from spending 10 days with Pierre in Tanzania, Africa. We explored the Arusha National Park. Tarangire National Park, Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Serengeti. Pierre booked all our accomodation and organised the tour. Each day was a highlight and the last day we saw the Great Migration in the western corridor of the Serengeti which was the pinnacle of our trip.

Pierre goes above and beyond to make sure every detail of your trip is taken care of and you are in the very best hands.

    Anthony Coleman, BattleScenes South Africa.
My husband and I recently (May 2022) spent six informative and rewarding days with Anthony Coleman as we traveled throughout KwaZulu-Natal tracing 19th century South African military history. Although we did a fair amount of background reading supplemented by material from Anthony, our real guide was Anthony himself. We could never have duplicated his expertise on the ground, to say nothing of negotiating that ground over some pretty rough conditions that would get us to the exact spot. Although we did not trace the entire Boer War battles as our itinerary did not penetrate all that far north, we made up for the lapse by the shear breadth of the struggles among local tribes, the Boer Trekkers, and the British, any combination of which fought each other at some point or the other over time and space.

Our exploration began at the gate of the splendid Lions Valley Lodge (Nambiti) and swung in a large, clock-wise arc around to Durban, taking in 16 battles and monuments along the way. It was thrilling to picnic on a hill and have Anthony recreate the actions of the attackers and defenders. His large, custom-made battle maps were terrific, and we could trace advances and retreats, victories and defeats that took place right where we stood. A natural story teller, Anthony would include details that went far beyond military strategies and tactics into the lives of the warriors and soldiers who fought – and well into the consequences of each encounter. The conversations also continued during our drives from place to place and over meals together. Anthony is clearly knowledgable about history far beyond that of South Africa, and our conversations ranged from parallels to the American Civil War to Australia to Stalingrad and Ukraine. Such fun.

Even before our trip began, which due to Covid was delayed two years, Anthony and his wife, Tish, gave us invaluable advice, negotiating the itinerary collaboratively, reserving our accommodations along the way – the marvellous Penryn B&B in Dundee and the delightful Mtonjaneni Lodge in Melmoth - and arranging for his colleagues to help us in Johannesburg and Durban. For anything in South Africa, trust Anthony to give the very best advice. We had a wonderful time learning because Anthony knew his stuff, knew how to engage his listeners, and was fun to be with. Cannot recommend highly enough.
