- MindyLouisville, KY39 contributionsI hiked down to the brink of the lower falls and it was amazing!!! I felt so close to the rushing water and the volume going past was impressive. Iām sure itās nice from an overlook, but if you want the full effect, take the trail down. The trail is EXTREMELY steep so itās switchback after switchback after switchback. I wouldnāt recommend doing it unless youāre physically in decent shape. I continued on the North Rim trail and hiked up past Crystal Falls and on to the Upper Falls. I didnāt encounter one single person and the views were spectacular, but when I got to the overlooks, they were packedWritten December 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MindyLouisville, KY39 contributionsI hiked from the lower falls to the upper falls. Great hike with even better views. Just the volume of water rushing past you will make you feel smallWritten December 7, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - John PSouth Deerfield, MA881 contributionsA quick stop, a short hike, a 132 foot tall waterfall. The bison viewing in the area is popular. We caught our breath (at altitude) and moseyed along.Written July 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ItchyFeetCamarillo, CA7,752 contributionsAfter walking up to see the grand prismatic overlook you can continue on the trail to the fairy falls which is about a 5 mile hike. The walk is mostly flat even trail through the forest with not much to see. Once you get to the waterfall there wasnāt the amount of water falling that I was expecting. We were there in mid October 2022 so the spring rain and snow melt was done however itās an interesting waterfall to see. If you have the time and want to go for a leisurely walk itās a great place to walk out to the falls.Written October 29, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MNMdMinnesota60 contributionsWe did this trail with Wildland Trekking on the day the park closed so some of the upper parts of the trail were flooded which meant we didn't do the loop but we went to the falls and back and then up the ridge and down. The views were amazing as many of the low areas were flooded and we managed to see Old Faithful from the top of the ridge which was more impressive than standing next to it.Written June 21, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rick BRound Rock, TX1,305 contributionsGibbon Falls is on the Gibbon River. the Gibbon River was named for Colonel John Gibbon who participated in the 1872 Hayden geological Survey of the park. The Gibbon rises at Grebe Lake in Yellowstone and flows to Madison Junction where it merges with the Firehole River to form the Madison River. Below the falls is a scenic canyon.Written September 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Alan GBoerne, Texas, United States65 contributionsOne of the most beautiful falls in Yellowstone. It requires almost no hike to see it. I prefer the smaller falls. It's a fine falls for a photographer.Written August 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- seekingwarmerclimesAnchorage, AK100 contributionsPretty cool waterfall and river you can view from an observation deck right off the side of the road. Great for people who canāt or donāt want to walk long distances. Not the most memorable of our stops in Yellowstone but worth a lookWritten July 24, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - koabugHonolulu, HI1,622 contributionscute little fall that you can see from the road. there are spaces on both sides of the bridge to spot and take a photo of the fall.Written July 6, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RaleighFrenchRaleigh, NC264 contributionsNice falls, but driving down the long gravel road for 30 minutes or so was not so much fun. Unfortunately, you don't see the cave since it has collapsed. I can imagine it might be fun to wade in the river below the falls but we were too pressed for time to do so.Written September 10, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LaurenEA91Chadds Ford, PA369 contributionsThis pretty Waterfall is only about a 1/2 mile from the road. Parking lot is very small, there's maybe room for 8-10 vehicles. Definitely worth the few minutes, especially if you have the look out point to yourself for a few minutes.Written September 17, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rick BRound Rock, TX1,305 contributionsAs you are driving between the Mammoth Hot Springs and the Norris Geyser Basin you will come upon Rustic Falls. This beautiful little waterfall seems to be coming right out of the side of the road. There are pull-offs for pictures.Written September 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- wallofvoodooUtah44 contributionsThe info says more than three hours. Closer to 11 hours, more if you come in through Grassy Lake trailhead. Beautiful hike. Few things to remember.
Bring bear spray. We saw fresh scratches on trees when we went. Bring a rope to hoist your gear also at the hitching area.
Bring plenty of water. Suggest 4-5 litres at least.
Bring water shoes or sandals. You have to cross the Falls River. It is filled with obsidian & basalt. Bare feet won't work.
Looking at about 18 miles round trip, bring a lunch. Can dump your packs at the horse hitches if you bring rope.
A good thing to do while there is the field of the river. About 1/4 mile from the fork in the trail at the hitches. There is a pool of water in the river where you can swim. About 7 ft deep. Fed partially by warm springs so warm water.
The falls are amazing. Nice & cool mist after a long day of hiking. My pics show about as close as you get on trail. Lots of Huckleberry bushes & Currants along the trail. The ripen in August. You can camp with a permit. Can also take horses, but have to leave them at the hitching posts at the trail fork. Great trip, highly recommend it.Written July 14, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We love to hike so we did the loop, but if youāre just in it for the falls, do the out/backāmuch quicker and easier.Written August 12, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
