I had touring the Breakers on my bucket list for sometime. The parking was free and very easy to find, simply walk across the street to enter the estate. I purchased my tickets at the welcome center, with no lines or crowds. Other ticket purchase options is online, or in the parking lot is a sign with a QR code to use to purchase tickets, that download right to your phone. I bought the trio (3) mansion tour tickets ($46), You do not have to tour all in one day, in fact you have no time limit, just need to keep your ticket to scan at each mansion. I toured the Breakers and it was absolutely beautiful. You can download on your phone app, a free self guided tour. There is a photo of which one to download at the Welcome Center, why buy one, when you can use a free one that is recommended. There are lots of employees present almost every room, full of knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. Restrooms and a snack/lunch area as well as a little water/lemonade beverage cart outside on the grounds. I walked to the other mansions I chose to tour and it was very hot out. There is a free trolly that runs every 20 minutes, which I highly recommend OR parking was not an issue at all in any of the mansions. I highly recommend a visit.

We enjoyed the cliff walk. Started at 49 steps (near Salve Regina university) and walked up until Ledge Road at The Wave. It was a great walk, mix of paved, gravel, rocks and boulders so you should wear good shoes. It was fun, great views, rained on us at the end. We took the free trolley to the first entry and from the last point. Glad we did it

We could not view all the mansions but did see 2. It is awesome to see how beautifully they have been restored. The audio tours are very complete. We were lucky that because of the time of the year the mansions were not crowded.

This was the third of three mansions we visited (The Breakers and Marblehouse being the others.) We really enjoyed the house, but were mansioned out. I'd recommend not going to more than 1 mansion a day, if you have the time to split them up into multiple days.

This was the second of three mansions we visited (The Breakers being the first), and we really enjoyed the gorgeous house and the story of the owner. The house is definitely worth a visit. Last entry was at 5pm but you could spend another hour walking around the mansion.

As noted in the two previous TA reviews, this mansion is not part of the Preservation Society of Newport; but rather the Newport Restoration Foundation (founded by Doris Duke).
It is a magnificent structure, with interesting architectural features and furnishings.
Though we did utilize the self-guided audio tour; after the orientation film, we spent some quality time gaining information and perspective from the friendly and welcoming staff (it was mid-week, mid-afternoon and off-season; so the facility was not at all crowded).
This mansion/museum focuses on Doris Duke, a fascinating and accomplished individual; who was a real asset and benefit to the Newport community.
A tour here is a truly pleasurable addition to one's exploration of the area's "cottages".

a lovely place to go for a free walk near Newport. It was interesting because there was a cruise ship in port. Interesting to talk with some of the folks off that ship. There's also a wooden ship there in the port. Lots of parking.

In the market for some Rhode Island apparel or seaside decor? This is the place to go for shopping and eating as well as viewing historical buildings and some fun museums like the yachting museum.

Though not as opulent as some of the other "cottages" in Newport (Breakers, Marblehead...); this location is still a testament to a time when artistry, creativity and craftmanship were honored. Though one can debate the issues surrounding the accumulation and/or ostentatious presentation of wealth; there is little doubt in the result of giving skilled artisans the resources to achieve and demonstrate their aspirations.
The competition to build the finest residence, has now given generations the ability to experience an aesthetic uplift.
Being 2-3 decades since our last visit here, the one change we really appreciated was being able to take a self-guided tour at one's own pace; allowing time to immerse oneself in an area, for as long as desired. Having mobility issues, it was nice not having to keep up with a guided group; and being able to rest as needed (especially after having already toured two other sites prior).
The upper floors here are primarily set up as a museum, rather than a residence; providing more of an informational, rather than q structural/decorative focus.
All and all, this site is yet another example of what the combination of skill and resources can create.

A fantastic place that will have tennis fans swooning. Truly exceptional setup, my only regret is we missed a tournament to be held there shortly.
The history of the game is displayed in all its glory all the way to the present time with VR displays and technology allowing one to experience Roger Federer exposing the nuances of the game to you almost in his presence.
Like visiting a miniature Wimbledon match!

    Strongly recommended.

Wonderful tour of the oldest synagogue in the US. Beautiful building. Guided tour with lecture by a historian is required to visit the synagogue. The historian is excellent (though he does speak a bit rapidly). Tiny gift shop onsite with some lovely items.
