It's a small site, but they do a nice job explaining both the functional (how the pipes were made from the stone, quarrying, etc.) as well as cultural significance to the local populations of these stones. The visitor center tries hard to bring in local experts for demonstrations, though I don't think it does the process justice. Walking the path was worth the time, as you begin to see how hard it would be to get these stones out of the ground with just hand tools.

The water falls are just beautiful and the colors of the stones leading up to the falls are unbelievable. Was surprised to see so much water after the drought we've been having this year.

Even though I'm not Native American the circle walk felt very peaceful and spiritual while walking though the paths.

From store fronts to houses to the courthouse. Drive through the town and you will be impressed. This is a very small town and easy to navigate.

Don't miss viewing the carvings of figures in the front of a historic corner building. The old hotel is impressive.

This is a nice venue for a small town theater/arts center. The entry can be used for non theatrical events too.

Stop for a picture and stay for the stories. Bud and his Associate will engage you in fantastic conversation. Learn about the pipe’s backstory along with the history of the local peoples. Don’t miss this stop going through Pipestone.
