The Holographic Studios provides an excellent laboratory tour of how holographs & laser effects are created by "Doctor Laser" for commercial customers. I highly recommend the guided tour ($35 for ~90 minutes) given by Doctor Laser himself. He's both entertaining & informative, and otherwise you'll get lost wandering around the crowded laboratory by yourself.

Some of the highlights of this tour is seeing how various laser and photographic techniques are used to create holograms. It was interesting to see how the initially simple early holograms have evolved to the multi-colored and animated holograms used in commercial applications.

Doctor Laser punctuates the laser & holograms technical overviews with some humorous anecdotes about how he has worked with various companies & artists in creating custom laser shows & holograms to their specifications. Even the cramped laboratory space has some interesting anecdotes going back ~100 years to its time as a metal forge shop for horseshoes and later medical equipment.

If you have an interest in this emerging holography technology I highly recommend this tour.

This is a really comical statute of a Dalmatian dog with a New York taxi on its nose. Someone has put a mask on the dog which is funny. Outside the Hass Children’s hospital.

This is a nice collection of literary quotes embedded in sidewalk of West 41st Street on the way to the New York Public Library's main entrance. A good way to get into the mood for reading classics as you walk from Grand Central Terminal to the NYPL.

Sniffen Court is where photographer Joel Brodsky shot the cover for The Doors’album Strange Days (with all the circus performers). I’m told the English chat show host Graham Norton also lived here sometime in the 2000s.

This magnificent church is located on 2nd Avenue and 34th Street, in an area that used to be called Little Armenia, due to its large population of Armenians.

The Cathedral of Surp Vartan is huge and austere, as Armenian churches are, with thick tall walls and the typical Armenian cross on the top of dome. It resembles a very old Armenian Church, the Cathedral of Surp Hripsime, located in Vargharshapat, Armenia.

This cathedral is dedicated to Saint Vartan (Surp means Saint in Armenian). Vartan Mamikonian was the military leader who fought with the Armenian Army in the Battle of Avarayr, in the 5th century.

The interior of the church is illuminated with several large chandeliers and decorated with colorful stained glass windows. The Blessed Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus in her arms presides over the altar. Many traditional Christian and Armenian scenes are depicted in the inside and the outside of the church, and it is very interesting to examine them and understand the meaning of each image.

I was lucky that I visited this incredible temple on January 6, the date in which Armenians all over the world celebrate Christmas. The church was crowded, the ancient Armenian prayers and songs filled the place and added to the wonderful atmosphere.

Church of our Saviour sits on Park Avenue which is a stunning location. It’s a nice church and in superb condition both inside and out. It’s such a shame with all the bigger buildings around it.

This is a very nice old church on Madison Avenue. It contains many different artworks including some by Tiffany. Nice brickwork as well.

This is a great statute of a man sitting in a bench playing chess. It’s unusual in that it sits outside the Polish Embassy. Recommended.

The rooms are filthy and the sheets are old, faded and tattered. If you lay on those sheets you will need about 5 showers after. I had intended to treat a co-worker of mine but was immediately embarrassed that I suggested this place once I saw those sheets.
