This is a must see in the Big Bend Park as it is outstanding!!! It’s quite a drive from the park entrance but along the way you see an abundance of beautiful scenery & the journey is worth it.

For cooler temperatures, amazing views and some of the best hiking in BB, Chisos mountains are a must visit if you have at least two days in the park (visit the desert one day and the mountains the next).

After talking to a park ranger at the customs house in the US, four friends climbed into a rowboat with a strong young oarsman who safely took us across the fast moving Rio Grande to the sleepy town of Boquillas.
I highly recommend anyone visiting the park also visit Mexico via the Boquillas Port of Entry.

From the Chisos Mountain Lodge (trailhead) its about a 6-7 hours round trip to the summit and back to the car park.
Being the highest peak in the park, and the sixth highest in Texas, it is a necessary hike when visiting Big Bend.

We especially loved exploring the river in Big bend State Park area (along Hwy 170), but it was also gorgeous at Boquillas and Santa Elena.
My husband and I enjoyed the Rio Grande River from Presidio, TX to Santa Elena Canyon on the west side of Big Bend National park to Boquillas Canyon on the east side of Big Bend National park.

You can park on the side of the road by the trailhead.
