A hidden jewel in downtown San Francisco! We discovered it on a rainy afternoon. Wonderful historical artifacts which really tell the story of SF from its origins to recent times. Displays about Stagecoaches and the 1906 Earthquake were especially interesting. Docent/curator Joycee added lots of insight and really made it a wonderful visit!

Special exhibit featuring Bruce Lee was remarkable. Miniature rooms of Early days are finely detailed. Staff was friendly, located in the heart of Chinatown.

Very worthy of a visit. This small, yet perfectly formed museum, traces the history of LGBTI rights in the city and beyond. I lovely reach back into the recent past.

I am glad I went. Contemporary art with a political edge. Much of it I could not relate to because I do not share the experience that produced the art. Friendly staff, an affordable entry fee and a manageable design all add to the experience.

Super duper display of 🎶 musicology of the bay area. Which is pretty provincial and doesn't provide sufficient space for other national music such as blues, jazz, hip hop etc.

I stumbled across this while walking in the area and went in as it happened to be free entry. I was so impressed by it. Such an interesting and interactive experience where you get to learn all about the eye and participate in different experiments. They have a VR experience and other activities to do. Great for both adults and kids. I was really pleasantly surprised by how good it was.

I had not considered this a must see, but having seen it I would describe it that way. It is in the heart of the area that is getting a lot of bad press at the moment my experience was that while there are a lot of homeless people and a lot of open use of drugs, you can walk by and quietly show respect and not be bothered. If I don’t bother you, then you won’t bother me and vice versa. The museum was small but rich and gave a good sense of the history of the area and why it is the way it is. It helps you interpret the neighbourhood as you walk through it.

CHS is a great organization with wonderful programing, but not enough space to exhibit all its interesting historical items. You should definitely drop by - they always have one good exhibit up.
Check their website calendar for author and artist presentations.
Their library is a great source if you want to do some in-depth research.

The people in the hall are terrific, we had questions on many things inlucing lunch and dinner.

I'd usually avoid an exhibition this small unless I'm really interested in what it covers. But this one, on the 100th anniversary of Bauhaus type design, was packed with examples, most from the early decades. It was fascinating. (It also helped that I could get in free through my membership with NARM, North American Reciprocal Museums.)

The entrance isn't marked. I've included a photo of it. The sign listing building tenants shows two different street addresses in (it seems) the same building. We were lucky that we met someone coming out of the building to tell us what to do. You might call ahead for directions.

Small exhibitions of photographs of the local area in the gilded age. Free entry. 5 $ donation suggested. Next to the the Walt Disney Family museum. Bus 43 stop right outside (5$ day ticket on the MUNI app.)

Lovely little building. Fascinating items. The most enthusiastic and wonderful tour guide, margarita, explained so much to us. If only she was my teacher at school for history (I’d have paid way more attention!).
Visit as it’s a hidden gem - nice and quiet.
