What travelers are saying
- kyzrdgMillville, Ca111 contributionsMurphys Beach is also referred to as 20 mile beach, as it sits at the 20 mile marker on the road. Beach area is protected by the fringe reef so there is no big surf here. There is shade, sand is nice, and it’s really easy to park right up next to where you want to sit. This is not a beach to boogie board, swim, or surf. Very shallow with rocks and coral. Generally ther is enough sand in the water to get out about thigh deep and take a dip to cool off. Surprisingly there are few people here as it’s one of the easier beaches to access on Molokai. Water clarity is clear and if you are okay with coral and rocks 12-13 “ under you while snorkeling, it’s fair. Most people say snorkeling in the wintertime on Molokai isn’t very good because of the winter swell and I totally agree.Written 16 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- jokerjiAnn Arbor, MI714 contributionsDecent place to stop for a few mins - nothing much to see there and do around this place. You can spend a few mins taking some pictures..Written 17 January 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- TimeTravelerAdventuresLake Forest, CA225 contributionsThis is one of the temple sights where human sacrifice took place. It dates from 1300 AD and possibly earlier. Not too much different from other heiau sites throughout the islands.Written 28 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Gregory HReno, NV106 contributionsNot much to see, but worth driving out as far as you con. I guess you could get out and look at the boats tied up.Written 17 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- MimiSeaside, FL4 contributionsTrue to their word! I placed an order for a lei to be sent to a treasured friend near Boston USA and her lei arrived exactly as promised. She was absolutely thrilled with the freshness and fragrance of the beautiful flowers. Thank you for helping me to surprise my friend and to be able to share Molokai with her.
Many thanks!

The flowers are absolutely stunning! Challenging to find, but worth the adventure. After the church, the dirt road will fork and you need to go straight/left not right. Then you start looking for the grass hut. We ended up coming in the back way b/c we went right now knowing/got to a bridge owned by the ranch/then followed a grass trail to them.Written 22 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Kurt HSalt Lake City, UT351 contributionsTwo beaches in Molokai are "beach snorkelable," with the other being Dixie Maru on the far southwest side. Murphy Beach (aka Waialua) is great for kids, as it is shallow, probably maximum 3ft out 100 ft and protected especially inside the old rock wall rubble. Almost no fish inside the rock pile. Outside, there are few, so intermediate to advance snorkelers probably not so happy due to fish shortage. However, there are small fragments of colorful coral and the shallow waters make the beach great for kids. There also are some good shade trees to rest beneath. Wheelchair accessibility would only be one of the new rugged terrain wheelchairs or to stay in one of the parking areas, which is doable.Written 30 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- PepperSeattle, WA1,730 contributionsThis one seems more utilized and while it has been saved, peeling doors and railings cry out for a fix up party. Still, a lovely setting and a spiritual purity in its simplicity and setting. You can walk in - or at least it was unlocked for us.Written 19 December 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Gregory HReno, NV106 contributionsThe coconut palms are there but that is about it. However, this is the place to go to get a coconut if you want to mail a coconut home.Written 17 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Barbara KPrescott, AZ47 contributionsDrive to Kawela Battlefield by keeping to right to end below water tower. Good walk up to water tower with awesome views of the ocean and Lanai!! 1000s died fighting King Kamehameha there. Bones and artifacts are still being found. DO NOT remove anything from the area so archeologists can research it.Written 5 May 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- KulaBobMaui157 contributionsFirst and foremost, unless you are Hawaiian do not attempt to go here. The owners of the ranch don't even approach this site. View from a distance only.
Lanikaula was a kahuna who befriended a traitor from Lanai. His rival kahuna discovered where he buried his waste and took some home to burn it.
When Lanikaula saw the blue fire from the Ana Ana Kahuna's fire across the water he knew he was going to die. He asked his sons to bury him in a special way.
They placed his body under a kukui grove so his bones wouldn't be dug up and used as fish hooks. Kukui's are kapu so no man would touch them.
You can view the grove from a spot across the road from the ranch store. Climb up on the field edge and you'll see the tree tops in the distance.
Another good viewing place is north of Kapalua on Maui. Look across the channel at Molokai and you'll see the tall kukui trees on the horizon.Written 26 September 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - auggie_tech1Palm Harbor, FL209 contributionsIf you are shopping in town this is worth a stop. - J R WCarson City, NV546 contributionsIn the past one could lather up with mosquitoe repellant and enjoy a nice hike up to the water falls. We did it for years. Recently however, some of the local residents prohit crossing through their lands to get there --- unless you pay and arm and a leg for a guided tour. Still a great experience through a real rain forest with petroglyphs and old home sites and heiaus. Moaula Falls always has water falling. I haven't been there since about 1985 but used to go a number of times a year.Written 12 March 2012This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Anthony IVancouver, Canada60 contributionsVery long beach with nice sand. You need a good pair of beach shoes to wade or swim because of the rocks and stones in the surfWritten 28 June 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- LaBeau808Hawaii125 contributionsRefuge has been "mothballed" for lack of funding. Kiawe and cattails have completely taken over the former wetlands. Much of the water dried up when development above on the hillside tapped into the water table. There is no longer any habitat for the native waterbirds and migratory birds it was set aside to protect.Written 1 September 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
