We spent a Friday afternoon visiting a few wineries near Crozet, VA. Our B&B host recommended this one. A few other guests on a cloudy day. Lots of indoor/outdoor seating with nice views, dogs allowed outside. The grapes grown are of French vinifera, they seem to emphasize the French connection. We enjoyed a flight and a glass. Took home a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Some of their wines had recently won gold at the Governor's Cup competition. They did have available for purchase a small menu of meats/cheeses/bread/sweets. Would visit again!

What a pleasant winery. We got a red and a white flight. The wine was excellent. It was clear that the winemaker was concerned about his product by letting it age properly instead of rushing the newest vintage to market. The staff was friendly and helpful. They provided a good overview of the wines and also provided good recommendations for other wineries

The VDOT Workers Memorial is located along Interstate 64 East near mile marker 103 and is about 3.5 miles (5 minutes or so) east of the Scenic Overview in Afton. This memorial is not accessible when traveling westbound along Interstate 64. This scenic overview is always open. My visit here was in the afternoon of July 28, 2019.

I passed by the VDOT Workers Memorial without stopping back in 2016, but that was only due to significant fog at the time. The weather was much better this go around, so this time a stop was in order. There are no facilities at this memorial and overlook. There are some trash cans though. You can easily see the interstate and the scenic views here. As a passenger, you could see the US and VA flags as you drive by if you aren't able to stop in.

Before stopping here, I didn't know much about what the memorial was. Now I know this is a memorial of those VDOT workers who passed in the line of duty while making our roads safer and better. There are quite a few names on that list. This should serve as a reminder to drive safely going through work zones, wherever you may be driving.

This is another good place to stop, stretch your legs, and take in the breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There is a relaxing component to visiting places like this and taking in the views. You get to temporarily forget about everything else and just take in the moment.

Overall, this is an awesome place to stop, relax, reflect, and just take in the moment. With breathtaking views and to honor those who were killed while working to make our roads in VA better, this is a great combination. If your travels take you past this area headed east, this place should warrant a stop along your way. I will definitely stop in again if my travels take me this way again in the future.

Another really cool Country Store with antiques and gifts. A sister store of Rockfish Gap Country Store, we found more high end offerings at Greenwood. We made neat purchases at both locations.

On a recent visit to this area of Virginia my wife asked to visit Emmanuel Episcopal Church located along Rt 250 near Greenwood VA. Many, many of her early relatives are interned in the graveyard at this church. She easily found the grave sites and I took the time to visit the church. The church is on the Registry of Historic Places and dates from 1867 though the current structure is from 1914. It is a simple “colonial” church, little decoration but very elegant with beautiful box pews. However the surprise to me was the pipe organ. Located in and on the gallery at the rear of the church built by Richard Howell & Co of Lynchburgh VA in 2004 it is totally in harmony with the rest of the architecture. It can be accessed by stairs at the rear, an easy climb, and the quality of the cabinet work is outstanding. I would love to return and hear it live, samples can be heard on the builders web site. I consider this to be a superb example of an early American church of this area.

Driving down I-64 from Shenandoah National Park you approach this rest stop, about 9 miles west of Charlottesville. It is a large property with plenty of parking, a large pet walk area, vending, picnic tables/grills, clean rest rooms and is open 24/7.
