Visiting Monticello was a bucket list item for me and is did not disappoint! We were concerned by some of the reviews saying the tour had gone all "woke." We felt our tour guide was very balanced and so informative. Our tour guide was great to not put a modern spin on 250 year old history. Jefferson was described as "complex" and indeed, he was. We took the "Behind the Scenes" tour and were glad we did, visiting the upstairs and the dome. The tour was about 2 hours. We toured all the buildings in Mulberry Row, getting a full understanding of Monticello and the people who lived and worked there. There is a Jefferson actor who was fun and interesting to listen to. The gift shop was filled with lovely and informative items. The grounds are beautifully kept. We completely enjoyed our time at Monticello!

A great campus that feels historic, the area is absolutely awesome! We went to the rotunda to view the architecture and took a walk around campus to get a feel for the history. Lots of history here if you were into that! I would definitely stop by if in the area.

Had such a great time picking apples. It was fun for all the family who accompanied me, 3-78 years old. We enjoyed picking the fresh apples and walking along the orchard. The farmers market and the concession stand was awesome! The food and apple desserts were divine!! Enjoyed eating at the picnic tables.

This was such a wonderful adventure. It was a spontaneous trip and luckily, they had a spot for us. Highly suggest making an appointment as they had several bookings and a steady flow while we were there.

I am not creative but I left feeling as though I created something beautiful. The instructions were clear and they came by to check on us frequently. The owners were both there and were super friendly. They didn’t mind answering any question that we had.

I cant recommend this adventure enough. Cutting glass and using pieces to make something unique and beautiful was thrilling. Although they are able to ship your piece after it’s fired in the kiln, we will make another trip to pick it up. Will likely bring friends or our daughters back as this is definitely older kid friendly. Ours is 8 and will have no problem!

Although smaller than the other two nearby presidential estates (Monticello and Montpelier), James Monroe's Highland is well worth seeing. It's in a lovely setting, the displays are very interesting and include items belonging to Monroe. Staff was very friendly and knowledgable.

My husband and I were just here to do a tasting. We enjoyed the pre-set wines in our flight but wish we could have put together our own choices for a tasting. The staff was attentive, and knowledgeable. The entire tasting room was quite clean and the views were excellent. Highly recommend the trip to try!

I had never heard of Mulberry Row until I visited Monticello. I came to find out that Mulberry Row was where Thomas Jefferson’s slaves had lived and worked for the betterment of the Monticello State and for Thomas Jefferson and his family.
I read another review that there was a guided tour which we did not go on, because we didn’t even realize there was a tour for Mulberry Row. We toured it ourselves by traveling the long dirt road that was within the Monticello estate and quite close to the main house and toured the little houses and workshops that dotted the row.
There were placards of information inside each of the little houses or on the outside of the areas where buildings were in ruins. There were some docents at a few of the areas along Mulberry row where are you could sit and listen to them talk about the history of mulberry roe and of the people that lived and worked there. There is a small house that was only 12 x 12 where slaves lived. There was also a video in one of the smaller buildings that you can sit and watch for about five minutes they gave you more history of Mulberry Row and the crafts the slaves worked on and how they lived supporting Thomas Jefferson.
As you travel along Mulberry row from the beginning of the Monticello house estate down through the row it’ll take you to Thomas Jefferson cemetery where he is buried along with other of his family members. Once you are at the cemetery the free shuttle bus that drives around the Monticello Mountain estate can pick you up and take you back to the visitor center or you can go back in a circle up to the main Monticello entrance, since it is quite a walk up and down Mulberry Road to the cemetery.
Beyond Mulberry Row is a working farm with vegetables and plants of which are still in working order however is overgrown and should be harvested at some point. We took a tour of Monticello’s gardens and orchards which took us into the large garden area beyond Mulberry Row.
Such a poignant reflection when traveling by foot on Mulberry Row.

I ran through the downtown area this morning. A few homeless but certainly not a lot. There were very few vacant storefronts—a lot of cute restaurants, shops and no chain stores. If you are looking for that kind of an experience I would recommend.

Right in the middle of the Charlottesville downtown mall you will find the theater. It is still going and has been restored. You will find a variety of shows. Enjoy history.

What a wonderful find! We stumbled on the museum after seeing a highway marker. While small, the exhibits were wonderful and the written material and signage were very informative. Our guide was terrific and really added to our understanding and appreciation of the art. The gift shop was also excellent with a great selection of books and handicrafts. I hope the museum will be able to get more space to display more of this wonderful collection.
