Charming oasis in the middle of the hotel. I could sit there for hours just relaxing and enjoying the scenery. Best of all it’s free lots of nice restaurants around to grab a bite while you’re there.

We began our second full day in Nashville by visiting Belmont Mansion on the property of Belmont University. Although the estate originally consisted of 180 acres, the mansion is all that remains of it. That said, it was my favorite of the 3 mansions that we toured in Nashville. We loved the tour!
In 1849, after the death of her husband, the infamous slave trader Isaac Franklin who bequeathed his slave-trading fortune to her, the extremely wealthy widow Adelicia (Hayes) Franklin married Joseph Alexander Smith Acklen, a young attorney from Alabama. They built Belmont Mansion, also known as Acklen Hall, and originally known as Belle Monte, Belle Mont or Belmont to serve as the center of their summer estate in what was then country outside the city, and featured elaborate gardens and a zoo. It was completed by 1853 as an Italian villa-style summer home. They lived the rest of the year on one of her seven Louisiana cotton slave plantations, which totaled 8,600 acres.
Today the mansion is owned by the Belmont Mansion Association and Belmont University and is operated and preserved by the Belmont Mansion Association. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
Parking was free but vehicles had to be registered. I did this online the evening before but one could also do so at the door. You will need to know your license plate number.

This was our second visit to Cheekwood. The first was one summer when it was about 100 degrees so we did not see the whole gardens then. This visit was much better, temperature-wise. These grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Sometimes they have special exhibits spread around the grounds and that is fun, like a treasure hunt finding the displays. We saw The Trolls exhibit this time. There are six trolls spread around the gardens. You can’t miss them but it is still fun to hunt. The Color Garden is my favorite …. beautiful variety of flowers and colors. There are a number of other small gardens on the grounds and there is also a sculpture trail. We stayed about 1 1/2 hours but did not visit the mansion, if that helps any readers know how much time to allow. Lovely place to visit alone or with family or friends. They are on the reciprocal gardens list if you have a garden membership elsewhere. There is a nice garden shop here as well with mostly garden gift items plus a few souvenir type items. Recommend a visit here!

We have been customers with GoB for years and have always enjoyed shopping at the downtown nursery. In late 2023 we had the pleasure to meet and work with Matt on a design for two of our gardens. He was very patient in listening to our concerns (deer) and our interest in pollinator plants. Matt presented great layouts that made us very excited. Jon, our project manager, supervised the job and provided daily updates. The team of Eric and Salvador were terrific technicians in carrying out Matt’s design. They went beyond our expectations when performing several simple tasks for us. Everyone was so professional and easy to work with. We are truly pleased with the work they did, and we are now planning several additional garden phases for this year. Six Stars!
