Great street to browse for unique accessories, clothes, art ,(cusack&cusack( sculptures, homewares, fresh produce (Watts Fresh).....the list is long. Give yourself enough time as a couple of hours was not enough.
And then when you need to rest there is a superb range of quality cafes, restaurants, bars - Animus is a must.

Built in 1858 is this blue stone Gothic style church- the blue stone was quarried locally.

This small country town has an amazing array of beautiful buildings- and not necessarily on the main road. Kyneton was established in 1850.

This is one of the impressive churches in the town and is worth stopping to look at.

My wife and I parked our car at the Kyneton Community Park, near the river and walked along the designated walking path along the river.

We were on our way to Bendigo for a holiday and stopped here for a walk. The views are scenic and the autumn weather was perfect for walking.

The main mill building is still standing tall and proud. It is now a private residence but you can get a good view from the front gate where there is a historic sign with the mill's background. It was built in 1857. The steam engine and chimney were removed after milling ceased.

The Mechanics' Institute movement began in British urban industrial centres in the early 1800s. A "mechanic" was a person applying skills and technology. During the 19th century, most towns in Victoria established a Mechanics' Institute or Athenaeum with a library and meeting hall. Common objects were the "spread of useful knowledge" and provision for "rational recreation" in the community.

In 1855 a committee was formed to establish the Kyneton Mechanics' Institute. It was built by Andrea Stombuco and served as a cultural centre, exhibition hall, school, market place and theatre. This eye catching bluestone building with classical features was opened in October, 1858.

It's located in the centre of town, not far from the War Memorial and walking distance to the shopping district. You really can't miss it if you visit Kyneton.

This church was designed by a local architect, William Douglas. It is a blue stone church, the building was completed in 1860, however it started in 1856.

This church is one of Victorias oldest substantial churches, one of the very earliest with the tower. It is a very large church for a small town.

What I found striking about this church is its location on top of a hill. It appears regally placed in town. With a bit of research I was able to find that this was the highest place in town. I believe if you like architecture, then this is the place for you to go and see.

The Kyneton Cenotaph was unveiled on Tuesday, 1st March 1927 by Lieut-Col the Right Hon. Arthur Herbert Tennyson Baron Somers, K.G.M.G., D.S.O, M.M., Governor of Victoria. This memorial centrally located in town has been here for over 90 years. It's a place for the community to come together and remember those who fought in wars for our country.

It is near a green area of shady trees and there are tables nearby as well. Located close to the Mechanics Institute, you really cannot miss seeing this if you are in town.

The Cenotaph is made of local bluestone finely rubbed. The base of the monument has been inserted with cast bronze panels with the names of the 181 fallen soldiers and one nurse who died on service.
