What travelers are saying
- Samantha WMaryborough, Australia55 contributionsI was surprised at the archaic style of the pool. It has metal steps and rails, which both add to the "hottness" of the place. It is not covered at all by shade, and it has an unusual smell about it. You can not submerge yourself, and you should be mindful of your blood pressure and general health.
With all that in mind, try very hard to get to this pool. The water is hot, hot, hot and immediately therapeutic. I wish I could have stood the heat for longer as it felt sooo good and so uncomfortable at the same time. I wish we had gone in the cooler months, I can imagine it would have been even better.
I highly recommend a visit.Written March 8, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Such great Outback art, including the quirky emus, which also appear on murals in other places.
We enjoyed it very much and also to see John on the screen and hear him talk about his life.
You are not allowed to take pictures inside, which is fair enough and should be respected.Written January 14, 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If you're looking for canyons and snow capped mountains, you're heading for the wrong place. If it's quirky you're after, then the Ridge has it in abundance.
Stunning art at John Murray's gallery, an amazing sculpture work underground in one of the mines, a large cactus garden and tours of the mines.
In addition, if you're into wildlife, there's a lot out here as well. Most choose not to see it.
Good meals can be had at the club and one or two restaurants and, if you want to purchase something, don't overlook the Sunday markets.Written September 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The staff was very friendly, educated us on the different opal jewelry types, and showed us where each type was located in the store. Also very helpful showing us different options when we had something in mind, but also let us browse when we wanted with zero pressure to purchase. Was an enjoyable experience and would go back again.Written November 24, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lorraine LTarwin Lower, Australia3,584 contributionsThere are many opal shops in Lightning Ridge and this is the one we decided to visit. There is a large variety here of opals and settings. I am not a great fan of opals but it was nice to have a look around this outlet. We spoke to Herman who was very happy to talk about the different opals, cuts and colours.Written July 14, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jack198612Bradford, UK57 contributionsThoroughly enjoyed my visit to this shop. I visited during the opal festival and although it’s hard to judge as a lay person think I got a really good deal.
I love the freeform gems. I also love frogs. So this was an easy decision for me
Loved the variety of stones and the lack of hard sell coupled with the knowledge shown.
All in all a cracking end to my holiday.Written August 11, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The opals "spoke" to us and the settings fit our lifestyles. Our purchases will be worn daily as memories of the people of Lightening Ridge!
