This market was just down the street from our hotel so it was super convenient to walk a block. I am avoiding buying more stuff for the house and did not plan to buy anything. However there were some really beautiful and unique items. I ended up buying a wool hat, a sand garden with concrete balls, and a new wallet. All very well crafted. It was fun to wander up and down the aisles. We had to come back a bit later so I could get some delicious ice cream.

This is a really nice farmers market, right on the Portland State University campus. A large number of booths with a lot of variety. Definitely recommended for both locals and visitors.

Powell’s City of Books is an unbelievably huge bookstore. It’s in a multi story building that takes up a whole city block. It has every kind of book imaginable, including a rare book section. There is also a gift shop inside where you can buy art supplies and other interesting items besides books.

We found this enjoyable. Fresh fruit (wonderful cherries), flowers, sauces, soaps… hundreds of stalls with items made with TLC. Hot food too to grab a bite and listen to music. Worth checking out.

This area is dog friendly, bicycle friendly and life style friendly. There are great restaurants in the area and a top notch walking, running and bicycling area. The Spring-water trail is fantastic.

I am so glad that I found my way to Monticello Antiques on a recent trip to Portland. It is so well curated and the items in each stall are a joy to look at. I was able to find two small treasures that could fit in my carry-on suitcase. If I visit again, I will bring an empty suitcase to fill!!
I used public transportation and this shop is on a convenient bus route.

This is a mall in the downtown area. It seems to have been spared a lot of the things you see in other building which I assume was from the riots. Downtown is a little rugged but this mall is nice.

Went to see Robert Frank's "street photos." Limited showing: They will be shredded soon. Also saw some of his cinematography. Excellent unusual works. Don't miss this. Free; donation suggested.

It was very cute, quite small so doesn't take long to go through. Lots of little details to look at.

Two locations in Sellwood right across from each other. Lots of selection of clothing, antiques and great furniture and unique gift items. We love it at Christmas and never leave without buying something. Great reward program too.

I stop in Cargo every time I visit Portland: It’s magical! The new location isn’t quite as great as it was back in The Pearl, but it’s a funky, funky shop that provides 1-2 hours of fun shopping for Chinese imports, antiques, clothes, and novelties. Schedule it in!

To be honest, I've only gone to the supermarket and Meianna bakery. There are many other shops here like a hair salon, clothing, and other restaurants. The supermarket is large and probably one of the cleaner Asian markets. You can probably find any Asian items that you're looking for here. The location is nice if you want or need to go to other Asian establishments on this side of town and easy to get to from I-205. Meianna bakery has good egg custard tarts which is the only thing I buy here because the other pastries and breads are not what I'm looking for. Prices at both places are very reasonable.

This is an interesting experience. A tour through the mills shows you all the different steps required to transform the raw wool into some beautiful fabric. You should go on the tour before looking at the articles for sale in the shop - they are all made outside of the US! Basically, Pendleton only makes the fabric and then ships it to various manufacturers who turn it into shirts, hats, gloves, etc.

Very interesting to watch the process.

Great place to check out art of all kinds. Lots of unique and beautiful 2D and 3D art here, things you usually can’t find in other galleries. Has an authentic local feel and lots of inspiration, as well as a cute book lending library and classroom. Stopping in is a definite must!
