- Helping Host3 contributionsTirthan Valley= Wild Vairagi cottage
If someone is planning to visit Tirthan and reading this then let me assure you that this place is the best option to stay. If you are tired of city life and looking for an escape then you should definitely book Wild Vairagi cottage and leave the rest on the host. You will not be disappointed a bit.Written November 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I cannot recommend this organisation highly enough. From start to finish everyone involved took kind, gentle and efficient care of us. Planning our itinerary to best suit our needs and desires was carefully considered and put in place, with transfers and little stops and tours added in where we wouldn’t have considered it.
The highlight of our trip was the Marahni trek which we did in 4 days and 3 nights. Our guide, Keisha, was wonderful and the rest of the team looked after us with kindness and care. The equipment and food was all superb. We had such a glorious time in the mountains looking at views, watching vultures soar, trying to identify plants and enjoying watching the animals.
The area is so beautiful it felt like an honour to be there.
We stayed in the Eagles Nest homestay after our trek which is in a fabulous setting: trees and wildlife in abundance with nearby trails and others a short car ride away. Again, the food, made by Bindu, was delicious and the hosting by Gaurav was exceptional. We felt very welcome and relaxed.
We long to return. Thank you for a truly wonderful trip we will never forget.Written October 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You will be mostly confused and start walking towards the lake as we did and most of the tourists will be doing.
There are three spots in Jalori pass, you can't do more than more as 2 are 5 plus hours and one steep uphill.
One is towards the lake, the second one is towards the fort (both 5 plus hours) , the third one is known as 360 degree view. 360 view is steep uphill, will take approx 45 minutes to go up and have a mesmerizing view. Mountains , green meadows and all shades of green.Written October 2, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Andrew DSingapore, Singapore398 contributionsThis place is more of a temple complex. There are many small temples inside comprised within the building. You could easily spend at least 1-2 hours there just exploring and admiring the intricate details. We arrived just before midday and were delighted to see monks of all ages moving about busily some carrying plates filled with food, some carrying thali’s with portioned varieties of delicious looking food, some carrying buckets of food …. Lots of bustle yet all done quietly and with purpose.
We went up to the prayer hall from the side, up the ramp as my husband has recently undergone a hip replacement surgery. He still managed to walk up the main stairs up to the hall, albeit with a supporting hand.
Once upstairs, the quiet of the hall greets you and one feels immediately humbled.
There were a number of families, some sitting on the mattresses quietly, others moving around and some, like us, standing still in contemplation.
We left a donation in the box and took a couple of photographs and retraced our steps down to where we’d left our footwear.
Before we knew it, a gentle young monk came up to us with a beautiful smile and asked us whether we would life to sit and have a drink and something to eat … Ah … we saw a few tables where a number of the families from the prayer room were seated and greeting each other .. some eating a meal, others only a drink served by the monks.
With regret, we had to decline the kind offer as we’d had a late breakfast.
We went up to the monastery from the Kullu side and while most of the road is great, there is ONE really bad patch … hopefully that gets sorted out soon.
We are very glad we went and basked in the positive aura of the monastery and people around.
