With a street signage of “Dollies and Lollies” I was not too sure what to expect from River Dolls of Goolwa. I had driven past a few times and decided it was time to find out what this was all about. And it was exactly what the signage said - Dollies and Lollies. Inside was a selection of collectible dolls of all kinds and a range of lollies mainly from yesteryear and some from overseas. But that was the tip of the iceberg.
With payment of a very nominal fee, entrance was granted to the “pièce de résistance” – a room subdivided into many sectors just filled with dolls. This is one outstanding collection from many years of seeking out dolls of all genres, sizes and interest. For the bear lovers, they are represented as well. Many of the dolls are displayed in sub-genres eg Movies, Country of origin, Brides, with Dianna, William and Harry represented. The extravagant designs of the Ziegfeld era are well represented with Cinderella’s Ball a highlight.
No matter where you look, every cranny has been utilized. Access is suitable for wheelchairs and other mobility devices.
Whilst there do have a chat with Lynn and John as they have an amazing story to tell – no spoilers!
I thoroughly enjoyed my time exploring “Dollies and Lollies”, look forward to a return visit to spot what I missed out on the first visit and to try some more of their lollies from yesteryear!
Return? Most definitely - already on the “Must Return List”
