Cape Bonavista Lighthouse was built in 1843. Nearby is Landfall Municipal Park. According to local legend, this is the spot where John Cabot first landed in Newfoundland.

Dungeon Provincial Park is a collapsed sea cave on the Bonavista Peninsula. There are lovely views of the cave itself and the coast.

This is a great place to learn about the cod fishery and the sealing industry as well as Bonavista itself. Such a wealth of information! Wonderful displays. People at the museum and the adjacent general store were super friendly and helpful.

I visited the Ye Matthew Legacy, a replica of the ship John Cabot used when he discovered Newfoundland in 1497. The replica was built in 1997 for the 500th anniversary of his voyage. There is a small museum which tells Cabot's story. Then you go to see the ship. A guide explains some details of the vessel and then you can explore the ship.

This historical theatre is simply wonderful. My wife and I attended an evening concert by a few local musicians who played many Newfoundland and Labrador folk songs. It was very nice. Usually they show movies in the theatre however we were lucky to be in Bonavista to see some live entertainment. Also the price was very reasonable.

An important piece of Newfoundland history, especially the role the occupants of the house played in the campaign for Newfoundland to join Canada. The tour guide as very informative.

We walked as far as the restaurant and the Fish Flakes. This was an out and back hike on well maintained trails.

We did this drive on the way to and from our stay in Bonavista. I would do this drive instead of the Irish loop as the scenery is much better. Be sure to stop in Trinity, Elliston, Cape Bonavista and Spillars Cove

This is a pleasant walk around Old Days Pond. There are nice views all around and you can watch the ducks in the water. There are places to sit and rest along the way.

Beautiful little shop where you can see them making the products. You can see, smell and try all the products before you purchase. I bought bath bombs and bath salts, and used a bath bomb when I returned home. It was the best homemade bath bomb I have ever purchased - great smell, light use of oil and not over the top of fizzy. Looking forward to trying the bath salts!

I was not in a buying mood when I visited but was nevertheless appreciative of the quality of items on sale. It is not a particularly large floor space. Some items like T-shirts are back in the staff only area. Suffice to say many items had a more Bonavista and/or maritime look. The building itself was part of the original working Ryan Premises.
