    We we t to see an afternoon screening of No Other Land, an Israeli-Palesrinian documentary of the piece by piece destruction of the Palestian filmmakers centuries-old village on the West Bank by the Israeli army and settlers over 5 years and more-- i.e crimes that long pre-dated the Oct 2023 massacre by Hamas. Depressing as hell but important to see. Fortunately, the theater is an ideal setting. To be one of just two in the entire U.S. to screen it.

    Huge park - so many things to do here. But we went on a Monday and the attractions were closed. Our grandson did enjoy the playground area a lot and we hope to come back again with him when the other things are open.

    It's a neat little place. The Lincoln artifacts are amazing and the rest of the collection is pretty neat. We ran in for 30 mins before they closed, and made a good quick pass through. If you're in the area and like history, it's worth a stop!

    PROS
    * Beautiful green oasis in urban/suburban areas
    * "an oasis of nature" from the urban concrete
    * Long winding shaded trails
    * Walking paths all totally very shaded by dense tall trees
    * Access from many points and neighborhoods
    * Populated by deer and birds/ducks/swans

    CONS
    * Significant traffic volume on parts where there is a road
    * Signage for directions is not the clearest
    * Frequented by other walkers- many pushing baby carriages
    * Trails shared by a good number of bicyclists- without any designated lane at all!!

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
    ... when I came out for my daily 0530am power walk, and expected to wander around streets and neighborhoods and shopping centers, but found an entrance into the woods and was entranced and thrilled to find all the paths in this lush shaded green park.... and then, every morning was another adventure- wandering through the paved trees and ending up in Wheaton or other parts of Silver Spring. I always spent at least half an hour, and once I walked for almost two hours. Exploring the park became my standard default activity from 0530am during my two week vacation there.

    TIPs
    * Do it and go
    * Beware of fast bicyclists sharing the walking path
    * Deer easily visible at dusk (yes- I walked after 1900H also.

    PLEASE enjoy my many photos that I've attached here and please mark them as "helpful."

    How often does a public (govt) space work perfectly to facilitate a wide range of community functions and still manage to look pretty good and fit with its surroundings as a truly attractive center for its surrounding area? The Civic Center is a poll location during elections. At other times it hosts meetings from small to large. We attended the "Homecoming" session for Leadership Montgomery in a large meeting room. About 500 people were in attendance and everything worked fine. Major hors d'oeuvres were served in the hallway outside and there was a free bar for the invited attendees. A great time was had by all, and parking was directly across the street. Couldn't get more convenient.

    The Silver Spring Library was tiny and much more off the main drag when I was growing up. It has been replaced by this lovely, central, community oriented building with lots of light and space to sit and read. Even a coffee shop on the ground floor (though you can't take coffee into the library).

    I feel happy to attend Mass this parish when I am in town. I enjoy the choices for liturgies and varied music. I like the concern for others...

    The Forum is a tiny stage next door to the AFI movie theater in downtown Silver Spring. Pretty sure this used to be the space where Roundhouse was in one of its many earlier incarnations. The small stage is viewed by an audience of about 100 max seated in four rows on both sides of a rectangular stage. The performance we saw was Nat Turner in Jerusalem, a 2-person cast show set on Turner's last night before execution. Not especially gripping drama, but the Forum's mission is to elevate your consciousness, not to stage compelling drama. Not sure they accomplished even that mission, but technically the staging was flawless, and the cast, one actor playing Turner and the other actor alternating between the roles of his jailer and the scribe assigned to take his confessions, were not guilty of the playwright's shortcomings. Note: the Forum is only a part-time producer in this space which is shared with our drama companies.

    One of the busiest Thai temple in town. Super busy and congested during their yearly festivals which always offers traditional Thai food and snacks

    Very ornate cathederal, each year they host a wonderful weekend-long festival (September). A great insight into Ukrainian culture and fun time. Not tob be missed.

    My dad took us somewhere interesting every Saturday when we were kids. This train station was one of our stops. Now it’s a museum and a party venue. It was locked up when we got there, but we could look in the window at the restored interior with its rows of benches and ticket counter as well as railroad memorabelia.
