Very nice climb for a couple of 70+ year olds! A bit warm in July, but views at the top are worth the effort. Bring drinking water!

This house offers an amazingly complete picture of life in early 19th-century Blue Hill as lived by a brilliantly talented eccentric, Jonathan Fisher. The documentation of Fisher's life is truly astonishing. There was almost nothing he couldn't do.

Lovely library - public wifi in the parking lot 24/7 and lovely tables to work at inside. Pleasant and attractive space, welcoming to locals and visitors alike. A small kiosk outside has high quality used books for sale, to benefit the library.

The Blue Hill Historical Society is a do-not-miss for people looking for the incredible history of Maine and its beautiful cultural heritage. From old-timey Ship Captian stories, photos, and artifacts, to a beautifully furnished parlor that is historically accurate to incredible 200+-year-old ball gowns, clothing accessories like fans, hats, and gloves, and so much more.

The Society often has tours of the Holt House, a 1815 classic New England 8 room, 2-story house built by local Holt Family. Don't come to Blue Hill without stopping here, great for kids with very enthusiastic tour guides and volunteers!

We rented a tandem kayak for our family vacation in Deer Isle. Perfect way to explore the ME coastline with a kayak from the Activity Shop. Everything about the communication with Chris and the rental was perfect. Nothing to worry about. The kayak and PFD's were dropped at our rental house and picked up without any issues.
They eliminate any headaches associated with transporting the kayak on our own. This is the place to go for kayak rentals in the Deer Isle area.

We enjoyed our walk by the Peters Brook and Penny Preserve. It was an easy walk with plenty to see and hear along the way. Beautiful and interesting birds, wild flowers, and trees line the path. Bring bug spray and wear long pants/long sleeves, as the water can attract many insects (including ticks). All in all, we would go back again for a peaceful stroll.

This historic cemetery in the town of Blue Hill overlooks the Mt. Desert Narrows. It's main entrance consists of two thick granite posts with a wrought iron gate and overhead arch. The tombstones date back to the 19th century. There are a few sea captains buried here.

The gallery was recommended by our Blue Hill Inn staff and we are so glad we took time to stop in. Jud Hartmann himself was there and was so informative on his passion...sculpting and history of native Americans from the northeast. We learned so much, it has sparked our interest in learning and reading more bout these native people. His sculptures, from small to large, are just amazing. We highly recommend you spend some time visiting the gallery!

A great local bookstore with an excellent collection of (new) general and local-interest books. The staff is knowledgeable, and will order you anything which is not in stock.

Blue Hill Wine Shop is rare jewel of a shop in the darling little town of Blue Hill, ME. The affable and knowledgable Max is the Willie Wonka of fine wines, savory cheeses, hearty bread and more. Each visit is not to be hurried through, but to be experienced.

On our visit to Deer Isle and Stonington we stopped off at the coop to buy some sandwiches. I highly recommend them. Tofu for vegetarians and amazing meat for carnivores. Great selection of drinks and coffee with extremely lovely and helpful staff. This place is a gem.

This 4th generation family-owned pottery offers mugs, bowls, plates and gifts that are created in-house using local clay. We were impressed by the craftsmanship, but it was not in our style so we just enjoyed looking without making a purchase.
