The only thing holding back this place from being visited is the accessibility. You need to take a private car ride from caticlan to the small port in Libertad to take the 3 hour ferry ride to Caluya island. (Only one ferry company servicing the route. Kalayaan shipping Inc. And the ferry leaves at 3am). Also the municipality is only accessible from march to july, the rest of the year the sea can get very rough.

The town proper of Caluya is quit small. Only 4 to 5 eateries and some do not serve dinner. It is advisable also to stay at the houses of locals instead of the two inns available on the island. (Stay away from Island Tourist Inn. Owner will rip you off and the rooms are dirty. Exterior of the place is fine though. No access to eateries also). Most locals rent out an aircon room for only 500 pesos per night. (Best is lola dayalos house). The beach is just less than 5 mins walk from the municipal hall. (Fine powdery sand to rival that of Boracay)

Before you visit the island it is best to contact the municipal tourist office since they are the only ones who can arrange for your island hopping and guides. (Cant rent a banka because no tourists visits the island yet so the infrastructure is not in place yet). Make sure to ask about the price for everything from the boat, guides and lunch on several of the islands. (There are 4 islands worth visiting...namely Sibay, sibalo, panagatan and sibaton). Avoid semirara island since thats the location of the largest open pit coal mine in the philippines. Seafood is cheap here. Lobsters are only 100 pesos per kilo and a 3 kilo crab will set you back 200 pesos. (You have to inform the municipal tourist guide in advance so they can catch it for you).

One important thing is to bring cash. No credit card facilities on the island and no bank. Only one ATM on the island. (Located at Palawan Pawnshop. Max withdrawal of 5k per day). And getting stranded is a very distinct possibility. We got stranded for 4 days because the only ferry had mechanical trouble. Other than that the island is worth visiting if your into nature. They have a dive resort operated by 2 swiss guys. (Island divers caluya. You can see whale sharks, dolphins and sea cow here). No bars on the island. Whole town sleeps at 8pm. Locals are really friendly. Complete strangers will greet you as you walk down the street. No pollution also.

Maanghit cave can be reached by trekking for about an hour or less, depending on your pace and weather condition. We were kinda slow because of the muddy and slippery trail caused by the rain the previous day. One of my sons (a teenager) was relieved when we reached Bungan-bungan spring and decided right then that he will just go swimming and not go to the cave anymore. From the spring, the cave is about 10-15 mins trek. We crossed the spring about 3 times, so be prepared to get wet (mid-leg only). The cave is big with high ceiling, muddy due to dripping waters, and has a lot of fruit bats. Speleothem wise, only few are noteworthy. Anyway, we did not explore the entire cave, we were probably half-way only because it was getting late. I would have spend more time exploring this cave to come up with a better judgment...On the other hand, swimming in the spring is a bonus...

Reminder: please do not touch the speleothems...
    take nothing but pictures...
    leave nothing but footprints...
    kill nothing but time...
