An essential part of any trip to Yangon - the synagogue has been beautifully maintained by Sammy Samuels and family (despite a small jewish population of about 20).

Fascinating and informative presentation in a beautifully restored home is a tribute to U Thant and his life’s work. I was not familiar with his career within the UN during a time of global upheavals - very glad I went! Highly recommended

Inya lake is in the heart of Yangon and can be a great place to relax or get some exercise. There is a great part where you can enjoy lunch and a drink beside the water and surrounded by lovely gardens.
Mix with the friendly locals as you take a walk around the lake or take a picnic and lay back on the lawns. If you have kids it’s safe for them to run around and play there are playgrounds. It’s a great place to visit if you are nearing the end of hectic travels.

This park is located near several tourist attractions. Also, the Independence Monument is located in the middle of this Park.

As such, it is common for most tourists to visit.

I’m a big fan of Urban parks, a crowded city needs a park for residents to jog, walk or just relax with friends or family. I walked over to Peoples Park after visiting the Shwedagon pagoda, and was surprised how big the park is. Seemed to be mainly locals relaxing and enjoying the pleasant weather in December.
To be fair, the park is not on a scale of Hyde Park, Central Park or parks in some European cities, but for SEAsian city it was very nice.
If you are in this area definitely worth a visit.

The admission fee is so trivial that it's worth it just to walk through. You can go through the South entrance on your way to either the Shwedagon Pagoda or Kandawgyi Lake and come out the North end. You don't have to backtrack. For me, it was worth it just to see the red panda and the big cats.

That said, some of the big cats, and other animals, don't look too happy. Tigers were pacing in their cages. Elephants in particular look like they need more room. And the gibbon had such a sad and depressed look on his face.

On the other hand, the elephants seemed happy to be hand fed snacks which you can buy, and overcrowding in general isn't much of a problem now that many animals have been transferred to the zoo in the new capital in Nyapitaw.

Amongst the pagodas and mosques of Yangon, this very european looking brick building in the centre of town stands-out dramatically.
